Perhaps, Doña, but this much smoke? I dunno...It was instantly noticeable when I awoke this morning, and clearly visible now.

We got a lot of soot from the first Possum Lake fire a few weeks back.  It's not unusual to get the effects of fires to the west here. There was a huge fire in Arizona and New Mexico some years back, and we didn't see really clear skies for quite some time.

If you have never seen this plane dump try to see it.  If you can get pictures even better.  This thing is a BEAST!

Please keep checking in, guys. I'm trying to keep tabs on people the best I can.

Bonny, whats the word on Mark Welch's property? Is everything okay out there?

Just heard on the scanner about an illegal burn at Chamions Forest Drive.  Can I go smack this D.A. upside the head now please?

Elo, Mark's house is okay.  Fire got his back and side fence.

I am seeing on FB that the DC-10 has made passes at Waller.  Just heard on the scanner of it but not sure if it is getting more retardant or not but the fire crews are preparing to clear an area.  Wish I had heard where.

Hi All-Thanks for keeping us up on what's happening. TRF means more to me than I can put in words

For Merlin-I am also central Arkansas and just heard on the news there are wildfires and controlled burns around the state causing smoke to drift over across the state and reducing visibility. Nothing like Texas - but that is where your smoke is coming from.

My prayers for everyone there. I have relatives there and family has relatives in Bastrop very close to the fires.

Plus I'm 5th generation Texan. Texas will always be home. It hurts to see her suffer.

Update

"A converted DC-10 jetliner flew into the area to drop fire retardant about 11am Friday. According to Texas Forest Service, the plane dropped 11,000 gallons of dye ammonia phosphate fertilizer in the area along FM 1488 near the Texas Renaissance Festival. That area, along with several other areas, have been plagued with flare-ups.

The plane had been scheduled to make a drop on the Bastrop County fire, but authorities said it wasn't needed due to the progress being made there.

We also learned that four Blackhawk helicopters will drop water in the area as well.

All three counties called for state assistance and the state has called for federal assistance, so the three counties are now working with a national management team, trying to get the fire extinguished.

Another DC-10 drop is expected on Friday afternoon."

"The Texas Renaissance Festival has canceled all weekend events including wedding tour, cast rehearsal, new staff orientation and work weekend activities. All will be rescheduled for a later date. The festival office and grounds continue to serve as a mobilization station for the emergency crews working across multiple counties to contain the wildfires "
