I'm sending out the... fabric signal?

I am collecting fabric for my next big project and I am finding myself about 2 yards short of some green silk I got from Joann's. The closest one to me that has some more of it is way too far away and they can't order it as it is clearance.

If anyone is swinging by their local one and can find and snag 2 or 3 yards I will be in your debt, and be happy to send money to cover it or trade.

I found it in the red tag section, it is called trekking green dupioni suk number 400100952061.

I'll take a look down here in Sarasota for you. If there is less than two yards do you still want me to snag it?

CenturiesSewing

Thanks! If it is just a yard or so then yes, hopefully someone else can find another few yards and I can just do lots of piecing.

I will look, too, although I don't think I've ever seen dupioni at my JA.

In case you can't track any more down at JA, you might check the stock at Silk Baron. It's a long shot, but they might have something that comes "close enough." They have more than forty shades of green.

Can you dye dupioni? It might be easier to start with two similar shades of green and overdye them, but Dharma Trading carries undyed yardage.

Good luck!

Dupioni can be dyed but it shrinks a great deal and becomes very soft and flowy, which is great for some skirts but not for sleeves.

I did try dyeing some white velveteen today using jaquard idye in emerald green, the dye took great except the color is very apple green or I AM IRELAND rather then the dark emerald I was hoping for. I tried to over dye it with some leftover rit but no luck. So I now have 2 yards of bright green velvet I have no idea what to do with.

Looking at the Silk Baron site the "clover" color looks pretty close, but part of the trick is matching not only the color but the hand of the fabric.

Thanks for hunting around Gem.  :)

And just for show, a picture of the dyed velvet and the silk in question.

You don't know; you may someday need bright kelly green velveteen!

Silk Baron does swatching; back when I was hunting fabrics for Promenade I ordered a bunch from his ebay site, but it's been a while and I don't know what the current policy is. I do know he threw in a couple for free when I told him what I was looking for (greens for the lining of the black skirt) and he thought certain ones might be a better match.

Anyway, that's a few steps off. You may be able to track the JA fabric down yet!

It just so happens I was in Joanne's today while waiting for my husband to pick up his truck.  And it just so happens that I was looking for an emerald green silk or brocade or nice upholstery fabric, with thoughts of a future noble gown to match my emerald green hat.

I can say with authority that the crummy Joanne's in Dubuque, IA - which is the most awful Joanne's I have ever been to - has absolutely nothing in any fabric that is a solid green, except for olive.

I wish I could help you, but there is nothing like what you have posted in the local Joannes.   :-[

If they have it at the store, you should be able to call and give them a credit card over the phone, and they could ship it to you.  of course you would be paying the incurred shipping cost, probably around $8-$10.  The store should be able to do this for you as a guest service, I know we have done this at the joanns i work at.

I have a line on 8 yards of the trekking green silk.    I asked them to actually lay hands on it and call me back before I go get it...   Please let me know if you still want it and what price you paid for it so I don't pay too much for something and give you a horrible surprise!    I should know by later this afternoon!  Glad to help~    And in case you are wondering >>> I will gladly take one of your AMAZING hand made linen dresses in trade!  hahaha.. (j/k)

Amy if you could snag 3 yards for me that would be fabulous! I think it will run about 10 dollars a yard. (If only that red tag sale ran a day longer..)

I'll send you a PM.   :)

Anna Iram, if you are still swinging down by the Joanns in Sarasota I'll be happy to take a yard or two off your hands so the trip isn't wasted.

Thanks everyone for tracking this down for me!

Anna Iram

No luck in Sarasota, but I see Amy has found it for you. :)

If for some reason that doesn't pan out Bradenton's JoAnn's  is just up the road a bit.

No green silk at all here, so I hope Amy's lead pans out.  Huzzah, Amy!

amy

Please don't stop looking for this!!   The store reported they had 8 yards but still have not called me to say that they laid their hands on it and are holding it for me!  Boo Hoo!!!  I may just ask to go rummage myself!
