I plan to be doing lots more sewing this year, and I was wondering where y'all go for your serger threads, notions and other goodies. I've usually just shopped Walmart, Hobby Lobby or Joanns, but I'm sure there are drool worthy catalogs and favorite websites I know nothing about. ;)

I use my local sewing shop. Mostly because I want to keep them in business, and because they sell good stuff.  :)

Not very helpful, I know...

JoAnn Fabrics is close to my house. I signed up to get their mailers and emails tht often have coupons. Coupons help a lot. My JoAnn's also accepts competitor coupons if they sell fabric and notions. They know me by name at JoAnn's and Hancock Fabrics.

Be sure to sign up, get mailers. Often there are coupons for Threads and notions, as well as sales for them in the store. For thread, I prefer Gutterman.

I get a lot of thread from Hobby Lobby but for other odds and ends I go to JoAnn's. For buttons and fabrics and most trims I go to Perth Street in Dallas.

Our Hobby Lobby has fewer sewing notions than our JoAnn, but they make up for it in various odds and ends that can be repurposed for costuming--like a larger selection of jewelry toggles for lacing rings, Christmas decorations for girdle belts, &c.  Basic notions I tend to get at JA... sometimes I'll learn about a specialty item from my local quilt shop.  There's a catalogue called Nancy's Notions, from celebrity sewing instructor Nancy Zeiman. Folks at Pattern Review swear by it, but I've only found the need to order a couple of things from her (and, honestly, can't remember at the moment what they were!).

If I'm not buying from Wally World, Joann's, or Hobby Lobby -which is very, very rare anymore- the other place I go is www.abrahamslady.com

It caters to the civil war community but they also have a lot of great stuff that spans various centuries.   I typically just run up to Gettysburg since I'm only a couple of hours away and it's a nice day trip.  :-)

I use to, many years ago (like four?), buy from www.homesew.com.  They were good but most of the stuff I got from them I could just as easily get in town.

Ebay is my favorite for trims and ribbons.  Etsy is a close second and I have yet to try artfire.

If you don't mind investing a bit at once you can do what I did.  I went to drycleaner supply compnay

I like them because I can get good quality cotton wrapped thread  6000 meters, for $8 or Guterman brand for $12.  They even have 1000 yd spools for $2.50 (Coats and Clark spools only have 250 yards on them for $2.50). You can get full packages of boning for $14, I even got a 50 yd spool of 1/4" elastic for $8.50.  Yes it is an investment but I will tell you I have had a cone spool of white thread that only now 5 years later is now visibly narrow.
What is nice is shipping is $4 up until $100, but will take a week to get to you.  You can get 2 day shipping but it will cost you.  I honestly prefer ordering notions I know I will use alot of from them, even with shipping costs,  then  buy in small batches from Joann's with a coupon.
(IE 25 yds of white 1" velcro from drycleaner =$17, from Joanns with 50% off coupon $30)

Honestly if you do alot of sewing it is worth the investment.  Over time I have gotten a blood red, a pale pink, a tan, a navy and a black cone of thread.  I'm tempted to place another order soon for some colors of thread that the PP and I have been useing alot of. I've also gotten their tailor's chalk and their hand needles, Much better quality in better prices.
