Leather flask holders with flasks inside

At the OK Ren Faire this weekend, we saw a father and daughter who both had leather flask holders (but to hold a kidney shaped water bottle, not a flask for whiskey) with the water bottle inside.  The bottle had a plastic mouthpiece that came right out of the end of the leather cover, so you couldn't see  the bottle inside.

The father's was black suede, and his daughter's was brown leather. there was a shoulder strap for them to either wear it crossways across their bodies or else to hang from one shoulder.  We saw them sitting ahead of us at one of the shows but when it was over, we were talking to the Bedlam Bards and they left, and we never saw them again.

Does anyone know what I mean?  And if anyone's been to the OK faire, do you think they got it there, and if so, what merchant?

Since I always have to keep hydrated, I carry around a 32 oz. water bottle in a green hanging sling pouch, but these were so nice, I'd like to have one of those.  Thanks for any help you can give!

Captain Teague's second picture is almost exactly what these people had at faire.  And on that site, the price is so reasonable, ess than $18 each.

Thanks so much.  Now that I know the name, I'll look for these at the next faires we go to.

Not sure how "crafty" you are Lady Renee but here is a website to buy the inner bladder.  Comes with a pattern that I'm sure could be modified so you could make your bota bag exactly how you'd like.

Years ago we picked up one like this at KCRF:

...At least, I *think* we bought it at KCRF. I'll see if Milord remembers. Anyway, as you described, it's a hard plastic, bota-shaped bottle inside a leather skin. I haven't seen them for sale out there in a while--but it's entirely possible I just haven't been looking. Instead of waiting to see if you see one at a Fair, why not just order one now so you have it on hand? But the link Lord Dragon provided is full of fun possibilities for all the leftover scraps from making garb! LOL

I think you could make your own cover. We have a couple that are covered in thick pile fleece. We rarely use them; but when we do, we refer to it as 'milking the sheep'.

That's a great idea.
Some leftover velvet and some tassels might just turn into a pretty bota cover...I also saw a bota kit at Tandy last year with the hard bottles.
I will see if the bottle liners are available without the leather cover...

It would be really nice to bring one of these to the ren fest, but apparently the Carolinas Renaissance Festival prohibits bringing in any outside food or drink, so I assume that means water skins too  :(

Stasiakatt

You should be able to bring it into the Faire empty and fill it after you are inside.

Most states have a basic health code for events that includes access to potable water and basic restroom facilities. If Carolina RF does not have public water fountains for you to fill a water bottle at; they probably have to allow you to bring in your own water.

Great suggestions! I'll have to be on the lookout for more water fountains. The only one I can think of is nearly at the very end of the walking path.

i ordered 12 from them recently. They are a little smaller then i thought but it does say one quart size so my mistake for not reading fully. Only real complaint is no notice was sent that it was shipped so after over a week i sent an email to find out about my order. They got back to me in less then 24 hours with a message that it would be delievered the next day and it was.

So now on to making them to see how it is.

It takes some looking but you can usually find at least a hose somewhere hooked up to a tap, and you can get water from that.  I would imagine that the venue would have to have to place signage on the tap if it was not potable (safely drinkable) water, like they do at campgrounds.
