So I know this will shock most of you, but I'm having trouble with the gusset placement on this partlet *gasp!* Try not to faint. Can anyone explain to me the phrase "swivel gusset???" And it says to pin right side of one edge of gusset to right side of slash (I actually ended up sewing together two pieces to form the partlet and sewed to the dots, if that makes sense), which confuses me once it comes to "swivel gusset." Arrgh! Help!

What partlet is this? I think there are at least three--the free pattern on her website (which is super easy and has no gusset), the Tudor overpartlet, and the Elizabethan Underpinnings partlet.

IIRC, I found the high-necked smock instructions a lot more confusing than the free partlet, so when I made my smock (got as far as the mockup, but haven't finished the real one yet), I adapted the freebie pattern for the bodice of the smock. So if the partlet pattern in that kit is as confusing as the smock, I'd pitch it and go with the freebie!

FWIW, no matter how many times I make gussets, I have to sit there and figure out how they work. It just isn't something that's intuitive to me!

Good luck!

Thanks Gem, I knew you'd be the one for this question. Yes, it's the Elizabethan Underpinnings pattern. While I have a *fairly* decent understanding of gussets, this one left me completely perplexed. I also was thinking of going by the free pattern, but I like the gathers and it's already cut. Perhaps I'll just whipstitch a little triangle to the corners and be done with it, cause really all the gussets do is give the neck a little shape. :-/ *sigh* ah well, letting it go til tomorrow--maybe fresh eyes will give me some perspective.

P.S. Just so you know, you are *so* very valuable to these boards--and to myself in particular. Thank you for taking the time to make yourself available.  :)
