Working at TRF?

I've never worked at a faire before, but I would like to get more involved. I don't have any theatre experience, and have never worked retail. I live in Houston, work a desk job M-F and have other committments every Sunday morning until about 1pm.  I'm a terrible actress (but not for a lack of trying!) All that said, I would love to help make the ren fest magic happen, one way or another. I'm not particularly picky about what job I do, but there are probably jobs I don't know about that I'm suited for. I like to think I'm pretty good at crafting things. (Heh, maybe I just want a pass to go up to TRF every weekend without having to pay an entrance fee...)

Are there any jobs I could do at faire, just to be more involved? Would I be wasting the vendors' time if I were to go to the job fair in August? Are there jobs that aren't represented at job fair (like volunteer positions)?

Sir Martin

This is a tough one . . . it might be hard getting on with the TRF Performance Company if you can only commit to Saturdays and 1/2 a day on Sunday.  I would recommend going to the job fair and letting the vendors know your schedule up front.  There might be someone who just needs Saturday help.  Good luck.

A vendor would welcome your enthusiasm.  Our job faire is in September this year.  (Visit www.texrenfest.com for more information)  I would encourage you to come and start as an employee of someone who has a shoppe that will allow you to interact with the patrons.  From there you might find your character.  Without committing to Sunday it would be hard to be on cast but as an employee of a vendor you are a part of the experience.

Just to clarify, the Job Faire is listed as August 24 and 25 on the website.

I'm also considering working for a vendor.

It will be moved closer to the opening.  Those dates will change soon.

Best thing to do would be to attend job faire in August and let the vendors know up front about your scheduling conflicts.

The dates for the job faire have been changed on the TRF main website.  It now shows:

"The 2013 Job Faire will take place on September 14 and September 15."

Gotta say, when Terre Albert says "will change soon," it gets done.   ;)

But...but...that doesn't give the vendors as much time to abuse their serfs, er I mean, train their staff.
