How's the camping in the quiet campgrounds?

Not able to attend this year, but hopefully will get there in 2014.

Would anyone care to share their experience in the quiet campgrounds?

Is it patrolled often and the loud drunks and horn blowing idiots kept out?

How much noise comes from the hub-bub of traffic to the store/shower/privy areas?

How crowded is it compared to general camping?

Problems with theft?

Is there any shade at all?

How much in/out auto traffic is there at night?

How is the driving-to-the-entrance-parking working out?  Is there enough parking for people coming from that far out?

All excellent questions that I would love to hear the answer too also. I also wonder about how much of our camping equipment we need to lock up when we head into the faire.

I've never camped in the new quiet camping but it has very little if any  shade.  I've never seen for that ten or so camping there on the weekends I've been down.   Remember next year is the mask ball and it's going to be in the far corner of quiet camping for some reason.

In about 10 or 15 years, there will be a bit more shade (o:

"horn blowing idiots"

I prefer the term "Bacchic revelers", but who the hell am I?

They really should fix up quiet camping, sounds like there's a good bit of demand.  Plant some trees or something.
oops.

In defense of Bacchic revelers (as compared to horn blowing idiots), the true revelers seem seldom to travel far from the party, whereas the idiots try to purposefully find a quiet, sleeping group of campers and sound their horn every 10 paces or so.

On a few occasions, when I am on my second cup of morning coffee, at dawnish, I have heard idiots threatened with severe bodily harm by the revelers who are now trying to sleep.  I keep waiting to see some naked barbarian tromp out of his tent, battle ax in one hand, claymore in the other, chasing the horn blower down the road.

Ah, the joys of early morning in camp.

Just chiming in.

There have been several (more than 10 but less than 40) camps setup in the large open area in the Quiet/Family campgrounds over this past season. Many more chose to camp in the area by the Quickie Mart under a double row of large pine trees.

Last year, there were numerous pine trees planted throughout the Quiet camping area. This year the trees were about 2 feet taller. Trees take time to grow, so give them a chance.

Thanks for the input, Mike.

In addition to the shade, the "trolley" should help put more people in quiet camping; make it a lot easier to make the trip back in the evening.

Just wondering, there is info about "camper parking" up near gate (I forget which rows).  Were those filling up?  I could see them being used particularly for people in the quiet camping because it is so far from the gate.

Were there problems with loud drunks wandering in late at night?  (Had this happen back in the old "quiet/family" area.)

Is security visible enough that campsites are pretty safe during the day when families would be in Faire?

Anything to add, Willworkforgems?

Ah, now I see!  That definitely wasn't us.

Can't stand the idea of charging for the trolley.  Even Disney doesn't do this.  Going overboard I think.

I saw the groups up against the fence line under the big trees.  Clan P. will be seriously considering a new area next year.  We come to the TRF campground to extend our Renaissance play into the night.  Not to be stuck in the middle of a drunken night club full of kids and a$S-Hats.  We want to play faire, not war against wanna-be hippy scum (No offense to the actual peace loving hippies.)

The quiet camping is looking more and more favorable though it will put us out of the "clan circle".  The future is still unknown, but the truth remains that we are getting unenchanted with TRF camping.

We heavily considered one of the old parking areas for our new campsite once the layout changed, but the ground there is horrible.  It's all gravel and broken glass.

I do hope you guys don't move, it's really great being camped nearby you all.

Sound awesome, KP!  Does this mean you stay garbed through the night at your camp? The reason Lord Scott and I started camping was because we were searching for a way to extend the "suspension of belief" and the fun of being someone else for a weekend.  We just haven't come across too many groups that truly do that.  Maybe we're not looking hard enough?

And, if there had been one more weekend, we would definitely have tried camping in the quiet camping, but just across the tree line border dividing the two, using the tree line for shade and tie ups, etc.  It looked like a nice, open peaceful place but still close to "the action" with other campers.

I serious considered quiet camping closing weekend and after the ravers set up their laser show club across the road wish I had,  thankfully security closed them down between midnight and 12:30.   BarbarianQueen I normally stay in kilt all weekend but do go for a coat or sweat shirt when the temp gets cool toward closing weekend.  To me its just not faire if I'm not wearing a kilt

Barbarian Q., yes, I stay in garb all weekend.  Not all of my crew do, but for me, I garb up when the gates open, and I stay garbed until it's time to break down camp.  The only way to meet me in camp is to stop by the Clan P. camp.  I have a young daughter in camp so I will not leave camp to do a walk about very often.  Typically I stay on deck in camp and wait for the walk about'ers to come find us (o:
