Lady Leo, that is SMASHING! What an awesome sister you must be. That fabric is fabulous.

Now he wants slops to match. The only problem is I don't have enough fabric scraps to make the slops so I was think about making it with a fabric that would compliment it.

That's a lovely doublet!

Though I think you might be looking for the gallery of finished projects thread. http://www.renaissancefestival.com/forums/index.php?topic=89.2385
Thank you. Actually I was. I'm still having a tuff time finding what I'm looking for. I have the same problem with google. Sometimes I hate the internet.

Gorgeous doublet!  And I LOVE it teamed with the steampunk hat!  Way off the beaten track.  Very cool hat, BTW...

It is a beautiful doublet. I wish I could have some of that fabric.
I you look at a lot of paintings, the slops were a different fabric than the doublet.

Do some black velvet panes with a little gold trimming and then make the peekaboo fabric a nice gold maybe a taffeta! :D

So MODA (unt designers club) had a huge sale...a bunch of people donated fabrics and notions and such and everything was suuuuuper cheap...$1 a yard for fabric...well I got 2 great things...one is a black and gold jacquard weave thing that I think might end up as a bodice...not sure....but what I'm really excited about its the other piece I got... 5 yards of a white canvasy fabric with black velvety flocking in a sort of henna paisley type design...I'm turning it into the worlds most obsurdly wonderful bodice/pirate coat! generally like the damsel in this dress pirate coat...mwahhahahaha...no pics of the fabric right now, but I looove it!

Also I found this wonderful thing (maybe someone linked me...or someone posted it here somewhere) http://www.extremecostuming.com/articles/theelizabethanseam.html I think I'm gonna use this method on the pirate coat...and other garb...but probably not anything "load bearing"

I think Centuries posted that in her kirtle post, but I've seen it two places recently. I actually dreamed about that seam last night! LOL

LOL. I didn't know anyone else had sewing dreams. Mine are usually nightmares about missing pieces or the seams won't line up.

I have had numerous dreams about being in giant fabric stores and each one is different, not anywhere I have actually been.

I have nightmares where my local Joanns is just full of fleece in like every color but they have nothing else...sometimes its things other than fleece...like really ugly quilters fabric...and I have a huge project due the next day so I'm stuck using whatever horrible crap I can find...in one of these dreams I made a noble gown entirely of fleece...it was horrendous...

I wish i had happy fabric dreams...

Here is my mother's around thirty five year old dress that I am modifying for myself.  Well I took the sleeves off so I am comitted now.  I have less than two weeks and here are my projects.  I am going to add trim and new sleeves to my dress.  Here is the fabric I bought for the sleeves I am not sure if it is right.  I could not find any natural fabrics and I was not sure about the print.  I just loved the way it looks it matches my trim I bought.  Its a real heavy uhpolstery type fabric.

Here is all the stuff together.  I might take the lace off the neck and square up the neckline.  I still have not decided.  I can also leave the lace at the neck and run the trim square.  I also have to add some loops and lace the back of this dress because my mother was smaller than I am.

My other project is my husbands vest.  It is too small too button so I am adding grommets and going to lace it closed.  I am also removing the pockets, going to add some cap sleeves, and put some piping on it.  It has two flaps that stick down in the front so I am going to add a line of trim to make it appear like a doublet. I am going to try and add the cap sleeves in the same material as my sleeves if it looks right.

I hope I can get it done in time with a two year old and a five year old running around  :o

I think that fabric will be perfect for the sleeves! You planned on hanging English sleeves, right? If so, you don't need to worry much about synthetic or not. Had it been for a new bodice I would definitely recommended natural fibers so you won't feel you're wrapped in plastic. Some synthetic (not all!) materials don't breathe at all. But as for sleeves where only a small part is actually touching your skin, I see no reason to hesitate.

Besides, I totally agree with the colour combined with you trim, it's an excellent match. And such symmetrical "pomegranate" patterns is very period.

Julia, I love that fabric, too! Another thing you could do that would make the outfit scream "Renaissance" would be to replace the white panel in the skirt with a panel of that new fabric.

I am going to attempt to do what I have heard reffered to as tudor sleeves.  I am not sure what english sleeves are, are they the same thing or are they different?
The only fabrics I could find that were natural in the uhpolstery fabric section were cotton and just looked like the pattern was printed on.   What I got looks more woven like a tapestry and I thought looked more natural then the cotton.  I think it said it was poly and rayon mix. Every uhpolstery fabric that had that realistic woven feel all said they were that mix.  I can usually tell when something has poly in it but this does not seem like it.  I have to avoid it when I am shopping for my husband's clothes so I am very familiar with it.  He breaks out in a rash if he wears it.  I think just cause it does not breath.  I am going to have to go back and check the label for my fabric.
