We are possibly going to make it for 3 weekends. I know this has been hashed before, but I just want to double check. WE've stayed in the Motel 6 in Conroe before and it is okay. But are there any dumps out there that should be avoided?? We are bringing a convoy of TRF newbies and some who are Faire newbies and we hope to make their first visits as amazing as ours was years ago....

You should never camp out at TRF.  Too much fun goes on out in the campground.  Go find a hotel somewhere with their hoity toity showers and hot water, haha.

If you are hotel/motel bound and would like somewhat of a decent place, try hotels in The Woodlands, like The Hampton, etc.  There are two motels in Magnolia now.  The Magnolia Inn and another I think by the name of Executive Suites or something like that.  They both have the old style doors that open to the parking lot set up.

I hope your friends enjoy the faire!

We did the magnolia inn thing once....once. I can't warn you off because its a dump or anything its very, very average motel experience...except the price. Supply and demand...WOW. Yeah, I bought a nice new tent I get to stay in every time for less then my weekend in the motel...even holds up against rain!

The Vanguard in Navasota is a dump.  Cheap- but a dump.

Tis not the length of the staff- but the magick there in!

not too sure of any pf the hotels, but camping is always the best choice because you pick what your room looks like and the cost is less than half of what you would spend hotel lodging, gas to and from fair if you are going to attend both days, and (if you're a heavy drinker) it's cheaper to stumble back to a tent than to get bailed out of the Chettaux de Fuzz.

Queen Bonnie

Camping for me is not a choice- alas. I know it is fun and used to camp- long ago.  Now I must do the motel thing.
As for Chateau de fuzz- not a good idea to drink and drive.

I'm just throwing this out there because of my personal observations the past couple of weeks....  on my way to and from rehearsals since Ike, just about all of the motels (your typical Motel 8, Days Inn, that kind of place) along the way looked to be booked with post Ike repair and cleanup crews.  And as there is still quite a bit of electrical line and tree damage in the area, they will be here for some time.  You may want to double check availability before you decide to head this way without a reservation somewhere.

Very good point. Before they opened access to Galveston last week, hotels were going for $400 a night.

Once those folks moved out, there were hotel/motel rooms available, but now they are filling with insurance adjustors (got an offer of $1000 per month for my small travel trailer), plus the folks from Galveston and Bolivar who found they had nothing left to live in.

Hmm I wonder if this will impact the camp grounds.... Say with a much larger population than normal?

Then we'll just have to claim even more of the overflow parking area.  Doubt they increase the amount of porta potties and trash cans though...

Yes, it may very well increase the camping this year. Dona Catalina, I think you had reservations at the La Quinta, do you think they are still good?

I am sure it will....as those that are die hard attendees will camp out rather than not go to fair at all or drive back to their respective home far away.
