except I'm on cast and have to be H/A

Sounds like you are going for a "Murrey/Tawny" Combination.

Of course Rat Colour could also mean brown or heathered.
LOL...kind of like the debate about Goose Turd Green. Does the color vary regionally due to variations in the diet of geese in the different localities?

Mulberry and Orange are both colors that can be found in nature and are found in 16th century evidence, under some alias. So is black, although depending on your class and faire you may have to get it approved. Some casts are weird about such things for theatrical reasons....black can only be worn by nobles, Puritans, bad guys...etc.

If you are cast? Is there not someone you can check with your specific Faire? Because often one Faire will have an exception or a rule that another will not.
Since the 16th Century did in fact have a love of strong colors and what modern people would consider clashing tones. It sounds yummy, do you have a guild master/mistress you could bring samples of the colors to and have them look at them? This is what used to happen in our Faires, I don't know if it does anymore. Also? Is this an English/French/Italian/Spanish/German gown? Because different countries different color terms. It seems purple was prevalent in the Italian City States as the extent examples from Janet Arnold several pieces that she looked at were of a purple hue.

However if you check I think these would fit your needs
Dark Orange= Orange Tawny
Mulberry= Murray or Gingerline
Black= well black!! LOL

It sounds lovely I would love to see the completed gown I adore purples I have lined my latest gown in orange linen (It was on sale) and I love how it looks together!

I'm in England I think the year is 1570 - Queen Elizabeth 1
Naturally, I have a garb nazi - I played by the rules last year and hated the outcome
Besides she let a fairy wear tie-dye

I'm just looking for different colored skirts - I was trying to pull off a purple/orange combo without looking halloween
I've got a multi colored bodice and I was trying to pull other colors from it
I have a brown spilt skirt and thought dark orange or mulberry would look pretty underneath
I'm trying to shake things up with new colors so i can enjoy what i wear
I'm loving mulberry/purple and I wanted to know if there was a way to pull it off

Garb is simple - side laced bodice, partlet, sleeves, hoops, bumroll, underskirt, spilt skirt, bloomers, & flat cap
I had been an unmarried washer wench for 2 years and this year I got married to an apothecary who disappears
trying to find spices for the mayors birthday cake

My mind boggles when you mention a 'Garb Nazi" / Snark" and then you say Fairy allowed in with anything! LOL!!!

1570's ...could I make a suggestion that would make your Garb Snark drop her jaw? You are now a married woman what do you think of this outfit?

I love the picture - saw something simliar from Moresca

I've got a few friends on the look out for dark orange fabric
and I'm still trying to track down the mulberry from last year
it's heavier than cotton and has a pattern to it
that way the skirt matches the flat cap

Does anyone know how to post pictures? I'm having trouble
