Wow...I started my search for fae wings and got a real sticker shock: upwards of $600! Two of my gowns combined didn't cost that much! I would really appreciate some suggestions as to where to find affordable (under $150, hopefully, defintely no higher than $250) but still good-looking (nothing overtly costume-y) wings. Thank you in advance!

My wings cost about $200 by Lynne of The Faerie Trail and to be honest? Worth every freaking penny. I could never have made wings like these. I never would've been able to dream them up, but they're perfect for me and I get gobs of compliments on them when I wear them.

That's the best picture I have of me wearing them though I'm not overly fond of that particular outfit anymore. The skirt was an experiment. ;)

Since I'm not sure that I'll be able to wear them more than a couple of times a year, I just couldn't justify (to myself) the cost, when I also need new boots for other garb.
I found these, instead:

They were relatively cheap and if the varying elements work against me at the faire, A) It won't kill me if they get wet and B) it won't kill me if I decide not to wear them because of the elements during the weekend I'll be at faire.  :) Darn, I hate having a limited budget!

.... you could have made those... couple of coat hangers... some ribbon.. and some puffy paint.... (and glitter!)

But. If you  like them, then I like them!

Kinda stuck in the middle of nowhere...between materials cost and gas to get to and from the store...it was actually cheaper to buy them!  ??? Man, sad but true.

There is a fairy links thread in the fae section of this forum.

Plus I have plenty of links on my site.

Ask the fae at your faire how they "grow" their wings. ;)  Most likely someone among them makes them or they can point you in the direction of who make them for them.  I paid $100 for custom wings 7 years ago and they are still in awesome condition and are one of a kind.
Got faerie dust?

Gypsylakat beat me to my standard reply. Yay! Freekin' fairy wings!  ;D

Try the Halloween stores that seem to have popped up on every other corner. I've also seen the little butterfly wings in Dollar General, WalMart and Kroger.

I got my favorite pair at wallmart for one dollar (yeah I'm amazing) lol their monarch type wings but the thing i like is that they have this velvet tie that's supposed to go around your neck... but i tuck it into my bodice and it keeps them really stable, sometiems the cheaper ones don't stay very stable, which is what makes my big ones impractical (and their still smaller than a lot of the ones you see!)

I make fae wings and I am just getting up off the ground... I would probably give you a discount if you chose to allow me to make them in order to build up my gallery.

The lady that made mine doesn't make them anymore unfortunately.   She used to go under the store name "enchanted hearth".   You might want to wait until after Halloween (if you can) and go to any of the halloween stores that seem to magically appear in every mall around this time of year.  They typically have adult sized fairy/butterfly wings that you can get for 75% off.   I saw a pair a couple of years ago that I should have gotten because they were simply beautiful blue butterfly wings.

Awesome wings.  These are great because you don't wear strapy things over your shoulders.  instead, there's a piece that fits down your back.

I have the dragonfly ones, I LOVE them
