Just got the "Moda alla corte dei Medici" from the library. It deals with the funeral attires of Eleonora di Toledo, her husband Cosimo I and their son don Garzia, both before and after conservation.

What was interesting (apart from... well, the whole book itself...) was the cod piece of Cosimo I. There is a picture both of the remains of it and a drawing of how it looked originally. Turns out the whole thing was attached to a metal construction (dressed in fabric), and that it was laced to the doublet.


The actual cod piece construction. "Fragment of Cosimo I's breeches after conservation. The remains of the cod-piece are supported with a fine metal wire wrapped with thread. The crotch and contour ribbon of the right leg have been left extended" (page 70)
