I'm thinking of making piping for my next project.
Margo's suggests piping cord but I've heard of using yarn or string as well.

What do you use?
And where do you get it?

I've found piping cord...  But it's usually huge 1/2" or so.  The stuff used for upholstery.  Which I'm thinking is too big.   I'm thinking 1/8" maybe??

I've used yarn which can work very well.  I'm about to start a corded pintuck project for which I am using 2mm rattail.

I take the easy way out and buy piping at JoAnn's  and Hobby Lobby. They have the better selection of piping than our Hancock does. Even in the Decorator weight. Those 40% coupons help from JoAnn's and Hobby Lobby come in handy when I need 20 yards or so. Hobby Lobby has the better price per yard.

Piping does add a touch ef elegance to garb be that Royal, Noble, or Upper Middle Class.

I've always used the satin rat tail cord to make my own, the 1/2" cotton stuff is just way too big.

Check out Wally world.  I've seen several sizes of cording at my store.  Didn't pay close attention to them since I haven't needed any yet.
Nothing clever to say here.  Not enough caffine yet.

I took some pictures for a size comparison. The first one has standard size gold upholstery piping above rat tail cording made of uncut brown corduroy. The second picture is a gold bodice made with the gold upholstery piping, and a blue bodice made with rat tail piping. Hope this helps give you some idea on the scale of the different types.

Wow...  The rat tail cord is a great idea!
I have some brocade fabric that I'm having trouble matching with the premade stuff so the example in blue that Lorraine provided is exactly what I was thinking.  Where is that Joann's coupon...?
I luve you guys  ;D
