I always have this problem.  XD  I always know which style bodice I want, but Devlyn (oddbodkin.com) has sooo many -gorgeous- fabrics...and I can never choose!  This time, however, I narrowed it down to five.  Those five were posted to my facebook, to allow my friends their opinions.  The one they chose?  It was actually the last one I had chosen.  xD

Long story short, I contacted Devlyn and she was kind enough to send me more, larger pictures of the fabric.  And now I want to know what you all think.  Because while I am rather fond of the fabric, both of my other bodices are rather...subtle.  This fabric is not so much.  xD  (If you'd like to see swatches of the other four I was contemplating, I can post those as well.)

If it helps any, I'm getting her new "wench" bodice.  (Yay for Christmas!)

*That's* the fabric your friends chose?  Um... do they like you?  Since you're asking, before you commit, I think we should see the other choices--PARTICULARLY the ones *you* liked better (post them here, or link to Dev's site, for those who aren't on Facebook).

(I'm typically *not* a paisley-hater, and I don't mind a non-period fabric for a wench bodice, but that... wow.  Yeah.)

In their defense, they only saw the little swatch.  XD  I do like it.  The colours make me kinda happy.  The only thing I was worried about was the size/busy-ness of the pattern.

The others I looked at:

(One thing I did say to my friends is that I was trying to stay away from green, since one of my two current bodices is green...but I also just found out that I'm slowly shrinking out of those two.)

...Now that I think of it, they may have chosen it because it really is the most eye-catching.  XD

I love the brown with blue and yellow, and the brown and reddish/burgundy striped fabrics. If I were choosing it would be between those two...

I think I've got it!  And it's none of the above.  I took another look through her swatches today, and found this:

Close up shot?  A little odd.  It was the distant shot that caught my eye:

I think I'll have something other than black used for the edges, though.  Brown, maybe claret or spice...

Oh Yes, this last one I really like, and it will go with so many different skirt colours!

I was thinking the -same- thing.  I have enough sage-y green to make a skirt already (thanks to Gramma), I have a goldenrod colour skirt already, and once I get the bodice, I'll take it with me to pick out some more fabric. XD

Oh, yes.  Yes, yes.  That last one is *glorious.*  That mix of colors, and the fact that the pattern is both rich and muted, will give you so much mileage out of that beautiful thing.

Well done!

Yeah...and most of my friends agreed about that first fabric once they saw more of it.  XD  I still like it, it's still pretty, I just think it might be too much for me in a bodice.

(Maybe as the lining for a coat, or a handbag.  It's bright and wacky, and I think flashes of lining are a perfect place to display bright, wacky fabrics).

Devlyn

LOL! In my defense I got the paisley to make stomachers for a "new" bodice style called the Countess. Most of the bodice is made of a solid fabric with a reversible/interchangeable stomacher and shoulder strap set. "New" is in quotes because I've been working on it/making them since 2001. ;)

I think the brown or spice bias would work best with that fabric. Not so sure about claret with the orangey tones, but I can check fer ya.

I really like the fabric you've chosen.  And if that is the Goddess bodice, I have one and love it.  It has held up so well.  I've lost some weight, so it's a little big for me now, but I use it as loaner garb.  Gals from size 10 to size 18 have borrowed it.  It flatters so many different body types and wears like iron.  Have fun with your new bodice, and please post lots of pictures!

Hi, Devlyn!  Hey, like I said, I still liked it.  xD  As a stomacher would be -awesome-, I just started to feel that it might be too much for me as an entire bodice (meaning some people really could pull that off, just not me).  I still think it's really pretty.

I decided on the spice already.  =D  I played with MSPaint and compared all of them to the fabric.  XD

Lady Renee: I have two Goddess bodices (one's too big now) and a Brigantine, and love mine, too.  I'm getting a Wench this time.  They really do hold up extremely well.  That's what keeps me going back for more.  =D

I like it too! Like I said, I bought it after all. :) The fact that you used mspaint to construct your bodice visually makes you officially an addict lol!

I think it'll make a great stomacher, especially with a more subdued fabric on the other side. BTW, email me before you order so I can check and make sure I have enough of that fabric to make a wench bodice. I know I don't have very much of it left. :)

I'll make sure I do that.  =D

Thanks for letting me know, too.  ^.^

I know I'm an addict.  But, it's a fun thing to be addicted to.
