Help building a pauldron

So I think this is the right section.
I didn't really think it was a armor type of question because its about the construction/fabrication of a leather pauldron, if I'm wrong feel free to move it to the appropriate section.

So I am building a leather pauldron hehe
I've got all the pieces figured out and tooled, the road block that I have is the joining of the leaves.
Do I just rivet them together or should I create channels where the posts go so that they can move up and down when I move my arm up and down??

You should be able to just use rivets. Bossman knows what's up, maybe he'll pop on here and throw in his two cents. If not... I could ask, cause we make pauldrons. It's one of my favorite things to do, but I have yet to really work on assembly.

I have a leather pauldron I purchased.  It's too big on me, so I am eventually going to cut it down and re-assemble it so it fits.  Thus, I have looked at the construction of it.   I'm sure this isn't the only way to do it, though.

The way mine is put together is small leather straps rivited to each piece of the pauldron, to allow some movement.  So, start with the bottom piece.  Rivet the small straps to the top edge.  Line up the next piece so it overlaps where you want it to sit when your arm is at your side.  Figure out where it's going to move to when you lift your arm, make the leather straps long enough to accomodate that, and rivet them to that piece.  Repeat until all the parts are assembled.

Did you remember to spray them with a leather finish? It will protect and seal it- you can get it from Tandy. I think it's a polyurethane blend of some sort.

blue, I applied leather conditioner and mink oil to it after I finished dying and glazing it.
Is that enough??

Do you know of a low gloss product like that as well? I am looking at sealing a document case and a new baldric I just made...

I'd say just do a lighter coat. Try it on a test piece of leather, then when you get your technique down, apply!
