Now that I have your attention, this isn't a naughty post. LOL. I want to get the powers that be to allow dogs, just like they do at BARF, MRF, and KRF. I have been to all 3 and dogs have never been a problem and seem to have a great time. Our Cavalier, Lady Anne Bonelyn, would love to go out and meet people. Does anyone know why they don't let dogs come? Thanks, and have a great day.

How many people thought this was a bodice thread?
own up now... ;)

Honestly with Scarby, I'm pretty sure its an insurance issue.

Yep, it was a bodice thread. Soooo a bodice thread.  ;D

It is an insurance issues and to top it off there was an instance Closing Weekend last season where I remember hearing everyone talking about how a dog had been left in the parking lot/in a car, I think? It had gotten horribly dehydrated, I think. That bad taste in their mouth is still really fresh.

I love dogs but I've never been around them when I'm at faire so I'm not sure how I feel about having them there. Just like in the mundane world, bringing dogs into public places, I'm a bit on the fence. While some owners are very responsible and conscious of their dogs behavior when in such a public place such as that, other people are not.

Dunno if you'll be able to sway them.  :-\

They should put the dog owner in a hot car for hours. The fairs and festivals I have been to, and I forgot to mention the Norman, OK show, the dogs and owners have all seemed well behaved. I saw people picking up after their dog and tails wagging all over. The funny sights of people pushing a baby carraige with their pup sticking her head out to take it all in was so cute. I doubt I can sway them, insurance scares many a folk.

I have dogs. I like dogs. I don't want them at faire. Would have to spend too much time cleaning my boots.

Most owners would be OK, but it only takes one time stepping in dog poop to change how I feel that day.

There are dogs kept at Scarby back in "keep" areas and backstage. And sometimes performing dogs. They have to clean up after them. Drunk patrons are harder to keep in line.

If you ever notice the horses in parade there is always someone following behind them to take care of any issues. Couldn't do that for patron's dogs.

I'm sorry that Scarby is not more like the faires you've been to Castle Canine Creations. I hope that doesn't keep you from joining us at faire at least this season!  :)

I was hoping it was a thread about letting dogs in to more faires and it is!  YEAH!!!  NCRF and GLMF both allow dogs at their sites.  It's nice to see there are 3 more that do.  It is sad that a minority of dog owners ruin it for those of us who are responsible to pick-up and mynd our dogs.  My Giovanni absolutely loves being at Faire and all the attention he receives AND he is breed appropriate!

Unfortunately, not all owners are alike.

I'm sure most would make sure their critters had adequate water, cleaned up after them and would not bring a dog that might be aggressive.

The few who aren't responsible cause such headaches that most events will no longer allow pets other than service dogs.  Some clowns have even brought aggressive pit bulls.  Event insurance REALLY doesn't like that possibility.

Back when our faire still allowed pets, we were always having to make sure they were hydrated.  I can remember one instance where the owners of a miniature had him in a pouch and just hung the pouch from a random booth upright and left.  When we realized that the little guy was becoming dehydrated, we took him down and provided him with water.  His owners eventually returned and were introduced to our Security folks.

As an aside, we've had a pack of dachshunds for over forty years.  Right now the tally is three.

I'd love to bring our IG to faire.  She'd love the attention.  I believe she's HA, too.  :)

Thanks for all the replies, I will definitely be attending Scarby again this year. Alas, I will have a booth at the Minnesota Ren Fest, but we need to go where the doggies go. We will be at the North Texas Irish Festival the first weekend in March, Just mention this web site for 20% off and a smile. :)

Was it a miniature greyhound?

I don't think so.  It was white with large black spots and long hair.

Yes, but sadly the only pics I have are a bit outdated. (She doesn't sit still for any good shots.)

She's a lot slimmer these days.  I love these dogs.  They have the best personalities and are easy to care for.
