To all our friends,

We live in an area that was hit hard by the ice storm on January 27.

For about a week we had 10 people (and 3 dogs, two of which are males...) living with us since we had a gas stove and hot water heater. Our sister-in-law brought a kerosene heater, so we all stayed warm. We finally got power back this past Sunday night (just in time for the second half of the Super Bowl).

Our sister-in-law got power back on Monday, so they went home Monday night. They also have telephone service and internet, two things we still don't have and can't get an answer on when we might get it.

Thank goodness the cell towers are working again so at least we have
our cell phones and I am able to use a air card to get a very slow
connection (forgot what dial-up speeds are like).

My wife's parents are still with us. The power company can't tell them when they will get power back. (down to just two dogs, one being male...)

Almost all the trees in our yard have severe damage from the storm. The ice broke the tops out of most of them and broke many of the branches. We have just one tree that has no damage. Falling ice also cracked the windshield on my wife's van. Just got that replaced yesterday.

So far, the only damage we have had to the house is the gutter on the back was brought down by the ice. Just couldn't take the weight. One of our storage buildings has a large branch from a very old oak tree in it now. We hope that it doesn't rain so we get no more damage to the content of the building.

Slowly things are getting back to normal. Hopefully it won't be much longer before we get a real internet connection back and cable TV. Just getting one channel on the TV is not much entertainment for the kids.

Any of you that would like to call to check on us, send me a pm and I'll send you my cell #.

Glad to hear that things are slowly improving.  Are you in Kentucky?

Yes we are. FEMA is in the area and has been since last week.

My fiance is there with the Corps of Engineers.  They're the guys you probably see in the red shirts.  They're working hard to get you folks all fixed up.

*I told him when he left that he'd be helping out at least a few rennies*   ;D

Hope life is back to normal very soon for all of you.

Thanks for that. There are also alot of people here that still don't have power and may not for several more weeks. My in-laws are still staying with us because the power is still out and may or may not be restored this week. We were lucky that any trees we had that could have fallen on the house were taken down a few years ago because we did have one fall over on the roof. Though our storage building wasn't so lucky.

We finally got on a list that hopefully means we will be getting phone service back this week. Still not sure about internet service. The aircard works, but it is slow.

Thoughts and prayers for your friend and those in your area that are still having problems.

Thanks for all the well wishes. We finally got our phone back last week and the cable came back on Friday night.

Now we have the big clean up job from all the trees that got topped out by the ice. Found that we've got a hole in the storage building roof that will have to be fixed. At least the only thing that happened to the house was the back gutter coming down from the weight of the ice.

So all is well and we look forward to meeting some of you this Faire season.
