Master James

We are rapidly approaching the time for Rendevous for 2009 at MDRF and our committees are pulling things together as Scotsman said on another thread.  To that end, I'd like to open up the Travel and Tourism Info and Help thread.  Post any questions you may have and we'll be happy to help you out and point you in the right direction.  We are looking forward to seeing everyone Labor Day weekend at MDRF and want your visit to be the most enjoyable it can be!

Here is some basic information that may get you thinking.

Airports in the area:

  • Baltimore-Washington International (BWI) - Closest airport to the faire at about 25 miles
  • Dulles International (IAD) - Located in the subburbs of Washington, DC and is about 64 miles to the faire
  • Reagan National (DCA) - Located in Washington, DC and is about 36 miles from faire

A discussion about places to stay can be found at http://www.renaissancefestival.com/forums/index.php?topic=5918.0

For those of you who want to do the tourism thing in addition to the faire, here are few sites that you can visit to see the rich history that this area has and the many opportunities to see many sites while you are here.  There is so much here that I've lived here for the past 30 years and I'm sure there is STILL some places I haven't made it to yet!

Washington DC Tourism: http://www.washington.org/
Annapolis, MD which is very near the faire: http://www.visitannapolis.org/index.aspx
Northern Virginia area which has a rich Civil War history: http://www.virginia.org/site/features.asp?featureid=7

Hope that this helps get you started on what we have in the area to offer.  Please don't hesitate to ask any question you may have and we'll answer it for you.  Looking forward to seeing everyone on Labor Day Weekend!
Why can't reality be more like faire?

I want to second the "visitannapolis" site. I found a lot of great info there.
