Thought you all might get a kick out of this  ;D   http://www.wired.com/images/slideshow/2007/06/gallery_steampunk/steampunkLaptop2.jpg

You all have got me hooked on steam punk! I want to get some outfits going soon when i find some time (and spare cash!)

So I am kinda running sideways with this and doing a WW1 pilot outfit with some steampunk, comic book(sky captain and the world of tomorrow) inspirations and basically praying it comes out as well as it is in my head  ;D. After that I am hoping on getting some real victorian ear steam punk outfits. Looks like I am heading off to Savers!

Don't forget the thrift stores, junk shops and garage sales!  Most of my Steamy stuff has come from those places, and I've found some truly amazing things!

Oh, and welcome to your newest obsession!!!  ;)  heheh

Nice link, btw!

For those of you in the "frozen north" (it's a steamy 90 with a 79 dew point in Mpls @ 7:45 this evening, currently more humid here than Florida) there's going to be a Steampunk convention in Madison, Wisconsin in November http://teslacon.org/main/index.html

I just E-mailed them for Vendor info. Might be fun to reconstitute part of my airship crew from the HMA Todd at CONvergence a couple years ago.

For anyone interested we had a MAJOR steampunk invasion at CoRF this past weekend. I'd post a few of the photos but they never seem to show up... so if you want to see them, go to http://www.pbase.com/delaneyalysa and head tothe CoRF 2010 area then Wine Tasting

I finally got around to taking photos of my goggles and a choker I made. Hope you like them. The goggles were made by Crimson Chain and I bought them at Anime Central.

Nice pics!  Love the mini-invasion, Lady D!  Great goggles, Selkie, and the choker is wonderful!  :)

Brass Goggles?  :D
Fun great source, although I get tired of some of the occasional philosophical discussions about "What does Steampunk mean" or steampunk as a "lifestyle"

some people don't get that things are best on moderation...
Things are shaping up to be...
Pretty. Odd.

Debates and heated discussions about costuming genres seem a bit extreme to me, but I guess I'm just here because I like the brass...  :P  :D

For some it's more than a costume thing. Some seem to have taken it on as a lifestyle -wearing steampunk elements in day-to-day dress like some kids in the Goth scene. Some of them seem to want to take the do-it-yourself/building things so far that someone on Brassgoggles even asked if it would be possible to create a self-sustaining steam punk village/commune.

O....k, then.  That seems a little excessive to me, but so did the whole goth "movement", and any other fad/trend/craze that's people carry to extremes.  Although... I'm all for DIY, and really enjoy seeing how creative people can get when they challenge themselves, so I would love to visit that village, if some group ever managed to get it up and running!
