How exciting!  Congratulations!!!  Can't wait to see the cover art, and find out what's inside this first issue!

There is a new steam punk comic out:  Lady Mechanika -  http://previews.diamondcomics.com/public/default.asp?t=1&m=1&c=6&s=782&ai=101438

I picked up one last night - #0 - and was favorably impressed.  The artwork is beautiful, it has a good steamy/scifi feel to it and the storytelling is well done.  There are some early sketches and character info in the back, making this a wonderful jumping off place for a new series.

Two big thumbs up from this reader!

Figured I'd post the link here.  It's too far for me.

OMG how fun would that be! Love the whole Emerald City theme. I wanna go.  :'(

Hah! I go to school here in Kansas but I'm from Houston originally. Do you know how frustrating it is to live in one of the biggest cities in america then go to the middle of kansas?

Finally! Though Wichita is 2 hours away, I am so there :D

FYI:  I was at 'Goth Gap' (AKA Hot Topic) today & picked up some steampunk-looking fingerless gloves for $9.  Probably not the most authentic but they were inexpensive & go with my garb.  Might be worth a look-see if you're near one.

Selkie

Hey Taffy, I hate to say this, but I won't be able to make it to the steampunk invasion at TRF. College is interfering, so maybe next year or something.  :(

No prob, Selkie.  Rani & her daughter are also taking their AHE a different direction.  Truthfully, AHE is too much fun to limit it to one theme every year.   I'll still carry a handful of pins for those who do show up in SP.  I know that the themed weekends are set in concrete, but it would be fun if we could have a day of our own.

I picked up some black leather gloves today at Target.  The have maybe a 3" quilted cuff - just the front - and so I'm happy to have found my mad scientist gloves.  Now ... to cut off the fingers or not.  I'll probably ending up cutting them off for dexterity's sake.

LOL  I STIL don't know what I'll be wearing on AHE...  ::)  I just can't decide, and I haven't had much time lately to give it a great deal of thought.  I've been busy crafting, but all of it is for other projects, or other people, and I haven't even been able to consider what I want to do for a costume!  I can't wait to see your Mad Scientist, though, Taffy... I just know she's going to be Uber Steamy!!!

I'd probably cut the gloves, though, just because if I didn't it would end up being 90 degrees out and my hands would just melt!  Of course, if it turns out to be chilly...  Well, there's the dilemma, eh?  ;)  heheh

Ooooh... you could cut them 2/3 of the way, from the palm side, and figure out a way to flip them back and attach the fingertips to the knuckle area so they wouldn't flop around, and then they could be "convertible"!!!  It would certainly add to the whole "Mad Scientist" look...  ;)

This may have to be the next thing for my Scottish persona when I'm not wearing a kilt or trews: Black Watch tartan "Breeches" in a jodhpur style from What Price Glory... May have to do them in a slight lighter weight wool however.

Oh, groomporter, those are simply delicious.  You have the  build to wear those w/grace & aplomb and I hope to see you in them one fine day.  Lovely find!

Lady Rebecca

Is there a big 3 pattern out there for a Victorian shirt (preferably mid 1800s, though a Gibson style would work, too). I feel like I've searched all of them, to no avail, but I'd really like to make one for the SF Dickens Faire (I know, not Steampunk, but I didn't know where else to ask).

This is what I'm going for (though I will be adding a Peter Pan collar):

What feels like it's teasing me is that half the Butterick patterns are shown with a lady wearing a Victorian shirt and something else. But the patterns are always for the something else.

groomporter

Probably need some different boots and maybe putties, but I think I'm long enough in the legs that I could pull off the look...
