There was a minor Steampunk invasion at CoRF today. Sadly I only got a photo of one of them.

Browsing through Harbor Freight yesterday, I came across a brass sextant for about $20, and a compass/sundial for $10. Didn't buy them because I'm not building SP garb, but I thought you guys might be interested. :)

The sextant is a bit bulky to carry around but the compass/sundial fits in the palm of my hand and in a pouch on my belt nicely.  Ours had a 3rd brass item right beside those two but I forget what it was.  Price was too high or size was too big.

Rani, I got you a pair of flat black lace-up ankle grannys & a pair of brown "suede" ankles that have quite a heel, but are cuter than a bug's ear in 9's.  Let me know.

I got a great squirt gun & Nerf gun for 99 cents each that both have TOO much ray gun potential.  They just got their first coat of white primer.  I'm not much of one for putting clanks and such together, but I'm a heller w/paint.

OMG!!!  I want them both!!!  The boots, that is... the guns I'm making will both have quite a bit more heft to them that the plastic sort, and I'm probably gonna regret carrying them both, but I think they'll look pretty cool.  I can't wait to see the one's you're working on, though, and Grov's sound amazing also!  I already know Elo's are coming along nicely...

Gonna get cut off now... so I'll post again in a while.

I probably need to put some primer on my guns when I get back to Fort Worth.

Excitement, major major excitement!! Dropped my bodice off at my seamstresses, and she's going to at least make me one, if not two underbust bodices. I'm so so so so so excited!!
Still Meggers, just a little more grown up now. :)

The nerf gun is coming along really nicely.  I used a coupla coats of white Krylon Fusion for Plastic, then my "fashion" color of regular spray paint and then some acrylics for details.  I really really liked the which primer.  Valspar makes great, beautiful metallic paints, but am still not finding brass paint anywhere.  Even looked at the teensy jars of model paints.

I went out looking for the Abney Park cd's at Best Buy and Barnes & Noble, w/o success.  I hate to have them mailed to me because the heat in the mail/box is definitely high enough to cause warping.  And call me a luddite, I'd rather have them on a nice cd w/art rather than digital files.

EDIT: Painted googly eyes from the craft store, glued w/E6000 make great rivets.

I found some silver paint in the local hardware store that dries with a kind of a hammered metal looking finish that I used on the Nerf mods I did.

I've been toying with making a leather belt case for the iPod Touch I recently picked up in a pawn shop. With it's WIFI capability I figure it would be fun to post notes to my blog from the up-coming CONvergence in Minnesota this weekend, not to mention use it to take notes during a couple panels I was planning on attending.

Taffy, and anyone else unable to find brass paint:

If there is a Games Workshop store anywhere in your vacinity, go there.  They only sell the little modeling-size paint jars, but they have quite the selection of metalic paints.  They even have several shades of brass, silver, and gold.

Edit:  They also have a website that I'm pretty sure you can order from, if you don't have a store around, and can't find the paint anywhere else.

Yea, acrylics for painting miniatures.  Have a tool box full of those.  They do have slightly focused colors that might fill in where Hobby Lobby stays basic.  They are a higher quality of paints also.  Usually better coverage with a single coat than anything from the generic lines of paints.

Games Workshop has their own stores but other gaming stores also carry their paints.  Citadel, Ral Partha, or Games Workshop.  Pretty much same paints.

After painting well over 500 miniatures I can honestly say that " Vallejo " game color is THE best paint you can use!!!

And The War Store is my favorite place to get my paints.

They have incredible coverage and they are cheaper and there is more in each bottle than Games Workshop.
So what are you doing this weekend?
I'm going to BARF!!!

Oh... I also have a new computer!!!  I'm so excited... and I'm beginning to realize that my connection is waaaay faster than I thought, it was just my old computer that couldn't keep up with it!!!  LOL

Now I just have to start rebuilding all my bookmarks.  I had dozens of really great S'Punk sites that I was using for inspiration, and a few of them are listed on here, but if anyone has more, I'd love to follow them...

Never even tried those because I hate the bottles.  I don't like to use paint pots for my work.  If I can't flip the top and use that, they suffer to my practical nature.  My local gaming spot is Little Wars.  They don't have much for online sales but they've been around for a long time.  Been gaming there and painting figs for gods only know how long.  Got more than a few armies painted myself.

Hey Grov, I know the eye dropper bottles can be a bit more work but you don't have to worry as much about your paints drying out.  ;D
All my local game shops have gone the way of the dodo unfortunately   :'(
Oh and what about brushes...
You can't beat the Winsor & Newton Series 7 Kolinsky Sable Pointed Round, these brushes are to die for!  LOL
