Groomporter, are you wanting the copper to stay bright and shiny?  I don't know about other people, but I love the look of old copper, after it's darkened.  It gives a piece the feeling of antiquity, as thought it's been handled for a really long time.  The copper wire I use is fairly old (I've had it for over 15 years, myself, and I got it used), and it's now starting to take on a wonderful aged appearance, and it darkens with handling, so that by the time I've finished a piece the copper itself is really beautiful.

Of course, that's just my preference...  :)

I have mixed feelings. Sometimes I want it bright and shiny as if I have minions. Gotta keep the household staff busy -idle hands and all that... what?

Thanks guys
;D

I get the whole keeping the minions busy thing, otherwise they cause so much trouble.
However you might want to consider going both  routes.
For example allow one cane to tarnish but also wrap some copper where it would be handled regularly- it would create a  great juxtaposition of contrast.
Would increase the look of wear and age of the piece.

Crash, we've all posted links to sites for artisans with cool stuff, here... so if you find something that fits the theme, or even better, know the artist personally, then we're always happy to see it!  And buy, if we're able...  ;D  Thanks for the link!  Some gorgeous stuff in there!

Yeah, this is much better than some "Steampunk" playing cards that recently came out. They just had special backs, but boring standard fronts and face cards, whereas this tarot is all original new art.

What I could see of it is gorgeous, and the price is comparable to other decks, although the shipping seemed a bit high, I thought.  I guess with the extras, though, it's probably about what Priority would cost.

Yeah the 300 page paperback manual adds quite a bit of weight for the postage.

It seems many Faires are scheduling a Steampunk Weekend. This year PARF is having a Time Travelers Weekend. I plan to attend as a Steampunk mechanic and will bring my Steampunk/Tweed Ride TREK bicycle. This is an automatic 3-speed. Power for the gear changer is supplied by a front hub generator. The wood fenders are custom made, with a 1930's German fender ornament. The vintage headlight/horn and tail light are circa the 1960's and fitted with LED bulbs. The panniers are converted from Swiss Army ammo carriers dating to the 1960's. The seat is a Brooks B-57 touring saddle with a Brooks tool bag. The leather look accents on the chain guard and water bottle are Contac brand vinyl. The final touch is the pair of cork handgrips, which are shellacked. See links below for photos of my bike:

You're going to...wait...WHAT???

Looking at trying a new look with my khaki jacket and kilt. I just got a 4-yard turban in the mail today, which is drying (Came with instructions to hand wash it in cold water before using.) Discovered the basket hilt from my broad sword would fit on the Indian wall-hanger pseudo scimitar I've had for years. I figure I can tuck the sword under a gold waist sash that I have with my ray gun on my other hip for the Scottish adventurer/mercenary who has spent time in one of the "'stans." -That is if I can figure out how to wrap the turban before CONvergence this weekend there are several tutorials on Youtube. Idea inspired by Alexander Gardner http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexander_Gardner_(soldier)

See previous post from Yesterday. Need a little more practice, but...

First attempt: More Beduin style?

Second attempt: more Sikh/Indian style? This also seems a bit cooler without the loop around the neck.
