OK, so I've been rewatching the TV series Seaquest which was filmed from 1993-1996.  It was supposed to be about an amazing sea vehicle exploring and helping undersea colonies in the year 2018.  So that's 9 yrs from now.  I'm quite sure we won't be to the level they were on this show, but we may be closer than we know...  I googled undersea colonies and apparently they're buiding one off the Florida coast now and will begin habitation in 2013.  They are even looking for people to come live there from all different specialties.  Here's a small blip on it, but you can also go to the link I provided.  So what's your take on all this?  Would you go be one of the inhabitants?  How advanced do you think we'll get underwater and how fast?

"To make this happen, we have assembled the most remarkable and talented team of aquanaut explorers, scientists and engineers ever gathered in history.  Our team has more certified aquanauts with more logged underwater time than any other ever brought together.  Our team holds an incredible slate of undersea world records in diving, duration and depth.  On our team are habitat designers, submarine systems engineers and world class diving experts.  If there is any team on earth that can make this happen, it is ours. The first Atlantica Expedition will begin on August 2nd, 2010."

Seaquest LOL! I remember that show!  Remember "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" ?  Actually I remember thinking when "Space 1999" came out that there was just no way in only few decades we'd manage to build and inhabit, a moon base!   They really should stop making these Sci-Fi type films so near-future and make it like 1,000 years from now or something.

As for living underwater..  it's an interesting idea. I mean it's kind of like the whole Biosphere/Biodome project they did. Just underwater I guess.  I wouldn't go - personally - at least not for an extended period! I might visit but that's about it!  I'm too much of a surface dweller to living in a space station under water!   Talk about reducing the dating pool and social circles, sheesh.

I think I'd do it, but hopefully it wouldn't be for a seriously long time.  Maybe I'd do it for a month or two, I think that would be ideal.  Or just to visit for like a week.  Imagine if they had those underwater vehicles that you could traverse the seabed with and have fun...  You could see all sorts of great thing down there, it would be amazing....

Also, imagine the social experiment you could do there....
