I am going to be totally unsurprised when the good Doña pops up one morning with the castle from the Wicked Witch of the West in Oz.

Lots of reading and a little help from my friends....

Oooh! Dona, what one of the castles you have found resembles that most? Just curious!

DonaCatalina

Possibly Alquezar- see castle top right on photo.

Not so many towers...but out on the ridge.

Though the more I think about it, The Alcazar of Segovia might have been the model.

It makes me think of, then makes me hungry because of, the chant "O-REO YO O O-REO YO O."  At least, that's what it sounds like to me.

Ooh, those two before the last one are particularly wonderful. I'm a big fan of great, old stone piles of castles. I especially love that we can see some of the inner rooms of the Castle of Vimianzo.

I try to get interior shots if I can find them. But some of the ruins are in such bad shape that they are not safe to go inside. Hence, lack of interior photos.

Yes, I couldn't help but notice the big holes in the stone floor of today's castle.

Mairte

Hmmmm....I have always heard people say how they would like to "fix up" a castle. I know this is sort of random, but it got me thinking on how many people actually HAVE? :)

DonaCatalina

Quite a few castles have been restored, all or in part, as historical projects. Warwick is a case in point. It costs millions these days to stabilize foundations and replace and set dressed stone walls. Then there are the floor supports and floor construction which is more like the deck of a ship than a modern floor.

Okay, I guess I should have said, is there anyone that has restored a castle strictly as a home?
Yes, I would imagine it would take a lot of money!! Interesting project though.
