Wow. The Citadelle de Sisterone (June 22) is one heck of an impressive fortification! I bet it's never been sieged successfully!

Love the 7/11/12 Castle of the Day.

I would like to have seen more photos of Plessis Josso. The layout makes me think that at one time it was much larger, or had another section of outer wall. But I especially liked the gate.

When I saw the photos of Burgdorf Castle (Aug. 8) I could have sworn I'd been there before. Turns out, the castle I visited was in Gruyeres, Switzerland, and the similarities in design and layout are noticeable. No surprise, I guess because they're not far from each other.

see..... I told you that you would begin to see regional styles in castle building. LOL.

Thank you, DonaCatalina for posting the Castle of Gruyeres! That's the one I remember. It even had the silly mummy-like sculptures in the courtyard (4th photo from the bottom) when I visited. They looked really out of place but what are you gonna do? It's art;)

I love the Austrian castles. They are always in such picturesque locations!  :)

Did anyone notice the Ritterfest on August 15?

Yes! And I was going to comment on it but I got tied up. I think it's really cool that enthusiasts in Europe use old castle sites for their reenactments. It's not only a perfect setting for them, but it keeps these important places and structures noticed, used and vibrant. I hope the respective governments continue to realize the importance of these sites and keep funding them!

Burg Gussing has some really cool features. I love the wooden spiral staircases and how about that wine cellar? That's what I need in my basement!  :)

It's probably not kosher to call a castle "cute," but Kururi Castle (Nov. 7) really is! I want to take it home and put it in my back yard!  ;)
