Thinking of making the new Simplicity corset (2621); NEW questions, post 8

Has anyone made up this pattern yet?  I'm frustrated with my progress on Promenade, and I've just found the most fantastic fabric to make this with, so I'm thinking of switching gears for a bit.

Here are my questions:

1. How's the fit?  I'm trying to decide which size to use.  I'm thin but busty, and I know commercial patterns tend to run large for things like this.

2. I'm sort of thinking of making this up as some fun Fairwear/outerwear (not just underwear, particularly since I don't yet have anything to wear over it! ).  If I wore it as a bodice, what would I put *with* it?  Here's the fabric I'm thinking of:


I'm thinking of a high-necked partlet with a pleated collar, but I'm drawing a blank on skirts.  Ideas?

I attempted to do a mock up from it, but my measurements are so out of line with the measurements for the pattern that I just ended up winging it. Waist size 12, chest size 6...

I did use the front and back pieces in a mock up, though, and just traced out my own side piece from a well fitting bodice.

It seems to fit pretty well, but to  be honest I'm not too fond of the busk. I've got quite a swayback so the point isn't anywhere near my body and just ended up looking weird.

Can't say about the corset in that pattern, but I made the three of the other pieces.  It runs HUGE!  According to measurements, my pattern size should have been 16.  I wear an 8 in mundanes.  I made the size 10 patterns and the shift, hoop and bumroll fit quite nicely.

I bought the pattern.  But the problem is it came one size larger than what I wear.  So I already know I have some altering to do.  Best of luck with it.  And that fabric looks beautiful.

I've only used it once, as a base.  Just to see.  As others said, it seems to run large, and a little awkward at the "side" seam.

I read the really long thread on this from April, and Miranda made it sound pretty straightforward.

Ok, I'd like people's thoughts on sizing (obviously I will make mockups, probably dozens.  I'm on #8 for Promenade...).

My bust measurement is 37.5", which would call for a size 16.  But my high bust is 32.5", or a size 10.  Obviously I'm not going to do a full bust adjustment on a corset, but I'm wondering if that's just going *too* small.  The rest of my measurements put me solidly in a 12.  What do you think?  There are no finished garment measurements on the package (that I could find).

Measure the pattern pieces in your size.  Trace off the size you need and adjust the tracing rather than the original...

I'm making a paire of bodys for my daughter, using RH 203, Elizabethan Corsets.  Ms. McGann suggests making a cardboard mockup before you cut any cloth.  That worked great!  I was able to fit it perfectly!  Also, I used those nylon wire ties for the boning.  Very nice!  My daughter didn't want a stiff busk, so I used a cotton web belt in the busk channel.  It is stiff, but very flexible.

This pattern would also make a great reversible corset/bodice as well. I am seriously planning on doing that for a client.

Gem, have you thought about perhaps making this one front lacing? I did a front lacing bodice from the Mantua Pair of Bodies pattern and it works slick as oil for when there is no one to lace me up.

I have yet to make this pattern (I've made the companion pattern of the Elizabethan dress).   For most simplicity patterns I do a dress size up.  So, since I'm a dress size 8, I cut out a size 10 from the pattern.  It works pretty well.   

For the busk, crate and barrel have bamboo place mats that are easy to take apart and cut.  The ends of the mats make near perfect busks...
