LadyShadow, you are a brave, brave woman.  I'm so fearful of working with leather!

ok ok it's not *completely* done, but it's done enough that i'm "finished" for the moment :P

this was my first attempt at adding piping to seams - I had no trouble making the seam, but what do you do with the piping ends when the seam ends?

minor to do's: hand sew in the modesty panels, hem the forepanel

Read more here:  http://www.needlewoman.org/?p=382

Also, it's waaaay too small for my dress dummy without modesty panels which means it's too small for me (just a bit). Bummer, but a very good learning experience overall =)

Wow beautiful Gowns both of you!

Trixi:  I have used piping like that before and I sew them into the seam and trim really close and use no fray glue on them.

I just adore that pink gown!!  It's so shiny and pink and beautiful, I'd love wearing it and that's saying something cause I'm pretty picky!!

The Victorian Saloon girl that my Apprentice, Elizabeth, made. I mentored her through the process. The SIMPLICITY pattern was a pin  that it took both Elizabeth and me to figure out. The headpiece I made. Elizabeth did 80% of this commission.

The Front of th Saloon Girl. The Bodice is made out of Satin with a Lace overlay. Supported with 2 layers of Canvass Duck, lightly boned, fully lined. Plenty of Bias tape to finish things off. Sequins sewed in the Princess seams.

The Satin skirt is in 2 pieces. like I said, it was a pain to figure out. But two heads made it work. Tassled fringe with Sequin accents.

The side view

The headpiece that is just  some plumes, sequins, a gathered flower made from Silk Organza and serged with the color of thread to match the satin.

That's rather good, Gem.  Me like!  I used those directions to do the child's coif back in the spring.
