To start I would like to say how wonderful everyone's sewing projects are since the last time I posted. You people rock.

Here is the latest thing I have made. My faerie shirt. Other things to follow.

If you go to "In Progress" I have posted two doublets I am working on.

I actually started and finished two things today (and made a lot of progress on a third). It feels really nice to do quick and easy projects after about a month of nothing but hand quilting.

Anyway, I made a 1780s enormous petal-shaped bum pad (it is so excitingly huge!), and an escoffion to wear with my tall hat for faire. (I simply couldn't fathom going to faire without making something new). I'm debating about pearling the flowers on the escoffion, since that's what I did with the matching forepart, but I'm worried that might make wearing my hat uncomfortable.

Perhaps you could determine which parts will be visible and only pearl those parts?

Lovely, lovely work, everyone!!!

Rebecca, can you share the dimensions of your escoffion? I'm working on one right now, but I'm having trouble getting the bag just right (not too small, not too poofy).

amy

Yes Lady Rebecca your escoffion is just perfect, would love to know how you determined the size, and your bum roll is adorable!   It's cute enough to be a tu-tu!

Oh! Such an adorable bumroll! And the escoffion is perfect!

Pearls would look really cute on the escoffion. You could put it and your hat on and see where it sits on the escoffion and then pearl it.

And your bum roll is just too cute

Thanks. It's mystery fabric I picked up Wal-Mart for $1.50 a yard a while back.

Thanks everyone! The escoffion is about 9" diameter, and the band is 19" long (it comes to 18" after the seam allowance) and 1.5" wide. I flatlined both pieces of the lightweight gold home dec fabric with muslin (which was the center of the crescent shape of the bum pad). And then I used lace hem tape in six spots around the edge of the inside, which will allow me to attach it with bobby pins.

I basically went with this "An 8-inch circle products a caul without many gathers which sits to the back of the head" - from http://www.elizabethancostume.net/headwear/caulmake.html, and went a little bit bigger (since I figured if it was too big, I could always take it in).

This is my first set of skirts,I used a pattern from Alter Years.I'm gonna wear the skirts with the print under and the solid on top, will it be to much to make a corset out of the print fabric?

I think that fabric is lovely, Lady J, and with the solid color separating them it will compliment nicely!  Have you thought about using alternating panels of the solid with the print in a corset?  That might give it more of a subdued effect, and tie the entire outfit together at the same time.  Either way, I'm sure it will be lovely, because all of your garb is always so stylish!  Can't wait to see it all put together!

My newest skirt! I modified a McCall's 4090! This will be laid overtop of a hunter green/white skirt with a saffron corset-bodice for my new M'Crack set!

Close up of lacing:

Instead of one piece, I used eyelets down either side of the front panel and have the ability to lace the skirt either part way or as far down as I like, all the way to the floor. My dress form doesn't stand at quite my height, but the skirt just barely brushed the floor on me! :D
