Yet another fantastic ensemble from your hand. It looks really, really, REALLY good! Love the colour combo of raspberry, mustard and black as well.

I was about to comment on how much I like the shoulder straps, that you've made them curve around the outer shoulder rather than hang over the shoulders. That's a detail which immediately makes a dress look more period. But then I read about the issues you have in the back. I think adding a strip of fabric in the back, to make it higher, is a good idea. It needn't be much higher, just a tad. If it's tight enough there, it'll keep the shoulder straps in place. You might not even have to redistribute the guards, as you can let a bit of fabric show over. But you could consider moving the horizontal up a bit, to cover eventual seams from the added strip. It would make it a lot like these:

That said, that change would be more for comfort than for looks. You look gorgeous in your new ensemble!

Excellent color scheme, gem.

There's always the perfecting taking place when making garb. It's a continuing learning
process because garb is never finished.

Keep up the excellent work, gem, and everyone else.

Huzzah!  The curved-front/corded-bodice dress made its debut today! It's been a little chilly here lately, so I also made some wool sleeves.

I'm really happy with how it looks; I felt very authentic strolling the lanes at Fair today!

Gem--as always--STUNNING! Your skills always blow me out of the water! And your fabric choices are rich and subtle at the same time. You are an inspiration to me! *sigh* I can't wait till I'm done with the nursing program so I can get the GOOD stuff and make something of equal caliber. *dreaming*

Thanks, everyone!!

Wicked, this is $6/yard linen ($24 worth), and some leftover scraps of wool. The "good stuff" doesn't have to cost like it.  ;)  And thanks for the lovely comments; this year I finally feel like my skills are catching up with my knowledge, and my projects are turning out like I mean them to.

Dona C, *blush!*  I'm really, really pleased with how the photos turned out.

Anea, that first picture you linked to--the Zucchari, I think?--is exactly what I was basing this on, but obviously my estimating skills need a little help.  ::) Honestly, that neckline looked higher when I did the mockups! The strap position wasn't so bad when we shot these pictures, but by the end of the day, they were completely off my shoulders. Happily, I don't think it's a difficult fix. It might just have to wait until the off season.

Gem, I really like the pleating at the top of the skirt!  I really hope to run into you sometime to see some of your handiwork this year.  Did you see Michael over the weekend?  He was wearing the blackworked linen from JoAnn Fabric on his sleeves.  He got several compliments!

Not sure what this weekend looks like, but I shall continue to look for you, and your stunning garb, in the lanes of Canterbury!

Rather than do Alterations today, I decided I wanted to make myself a new Arched Tall Hat to wear with my Mary, Queen of Scots gown for closing weekend of the Minnesota Renaissance Festival instead. I also cut out 3 shirts for Elizabeth to make.

I had a large scrap of Burgandy Crushed Velvet that I thought  would make for a nice hat.

WOW, the hat is amazing!  And I am not a hat person, so usually I just barely notice hats.  I love it, the color, the feathers, it is just gorgeous!

Rennigirl

The shape is nice.  I do so love the tall hats.  However, I personally would have gone with something different than that crushed panne velvet.  I have just never liked how that looks.  But then, I am a velveteen snob.   ;D

Had I had a large enough scrap of Burgandy Velveteen, I would have used it. But then, I was going for texture. It matches my garb beautifully.

P.S. I wore the Hat with my Mary, Queen of Scots gown on Saturday at the MNRF! I never had so many compliments or had my photo taken by visitors. Even some shop owners asked "Where did you get that hat? It's GORGEOUS!!" That was at Excalibur when I was buying some lovely colored Ostrich Plumes and several other shops I visited!!!

A photo of Jason and Stephanie in the Pirate Coats I made them that they wore at the closing weekend at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival.

Jason was sp proud on Talk/Dress like a Pirate Day a week prior. He entered a Costume Contest at a local bar and won first prize, beating out a Pirate ensemble made by my former Boss at the Costume Shop I used to work at for many years. He ws so tickled, he had to call me and give me the lowdown as to how things went. His prize was $250.00!

Huzzah for the Pirates!   Those entire ensembles are amazing!   Such great work as always!

Wa-HOO!  I finally have a computer (for a short time, at least) so I am FINALLY able to post a picture of my girls' new gowns!!!!  This photo is curtasy of Heather Munro, captured on the second Saturday of MNRF 2011.

This is one I took of the girls at their final "fitting," even though the fit is difficult to tell on such uneven ground.

And the backs (sort of...)
