Here is my newest short cape.  I actually didn't sew anything.  It is a Christmas tree skirt that I bought after Christmas at Hobby Lobby for 70% off.  It cost $10 including tax.  There were 3 black ribbon ties down the front, and I cut them off.  Then Steve & I used fabric glue and glued all the "jewels" on.  Together it took us about 15 minutes.  Let it dry the whole day & then wore it over my garb in the Halloween parade.  It was freezing cold out on Saturday night, but I wore leggings, thermal underwear top & bottoms, a tee shirt underneath the thermal shirt, a chemise & bodice, 2 pairs of socks, one fleece, and gloves, so except for my head, I was pretty warm.

You can't really tell, but on my head I have a fabric roll with gold trim that a friend made.  Then on top, I put a tiara.  It actually is quite large, but in the picture it looks small.  Our group was called Renaissance Royalty.  That's Richard in his gorgeous doublet, which he will have to tell you about.

Great Job! I am tempted by those tree skirts every year. Quite a few of them would make gorgeous short capes without adding anything to them.

The folks at Pattern Review recommend the much less expensive carpet cutting blades from Harbor Freight Tools. They say they're just as good as Olfa, for a fraction of the price.
Freaking awesome Gem! Thanks.  I would never have considered using carpet blades-they are probably tougher than diamonds. Do they fit all cutters?
Harbor Freight is my second favorite place to shop.  As an ex-mechanic (if such a thing exists) I still jones for power tools.  I picked some Dewalt pretties at the tent sale last weekend.

Lady Renee ~ that looks beautiful. And I would have never known it was a tree skirt. Such a great job.

In that note... I finished the doublet. YAY!!! First project for me to finish in a while. And I even made a "Cinderella" dress for my youngest.

Finished front. I was using only materials I had in stash. So I didnt have enough grommets for the whole thing, so buttons and botton holes it was. (And one of these days I will find my camera and use that to take pictures instead of my phone)

And here is the back of the doublet.

The dress right before I put in the zipper and added the trim.

A close up of the trim added to the neck and arm area.

I love the tree skirt as short cape idea, I would have never thought of that!  I'm going to keep my eyes open now during after Christmas clearance!
If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world.

Lady Renee, very clever!!
Lady Shadow, that turned out awesome! Great idea with the satin stitch trim. Reminds me of this slashed doublet:

This isn't Ren, but this Hallowe'en Milord and I finally got a chance to wear a couple of our costumes for Comic-Con!

More info here on my dress diary. :)

He was a HUGE hit. Nobody knew (or cared) who I was. LOL Next year I'm wearing the top hat.

Lady Renee--I NEVER would've guessed! It looks great!

Gem--That. Is. Hysterical. And I had no idea you were a comic girl! We truly were separated at birth. I'm hell-bound-and-determined to finish my Wonder Woman costume for next year--it's *gotta* be perfect!

So, since we're on the Halloween topic--I wouldn't normally post non-ren stuff here, but here are our costumes:

And so you can see the skirt trim:

The polonaise is shantung and yes, the skirt is costume satin, but it's all I could afford. I also had all the underpinnings of course. Happy Halloween!!

Holy wow! I've been away for quite a while and catching up on all of your fabulous projects took a well-spent chunk of the evening. Everything looks so wonderful!

Gem, you are so great.

Upon my return, I do have a Halloween contribution. I call her 'Batgirl, 1567'.

Of course the bodice has hidden pockets and loops for all of the Bat-accoutrements. There's even a Bat-purse somewhere around here.

Now, the husband and I can do a DC-ren team-up!

Alisoun! LOVE IT!!! Definitely want to see it w/ your DH's Superman doublet.

Did you finish the mother-daughter "Brave" costumes? I've been waiting to see how they turned out!
