Great job, Lady Rosiland!!

I follow the mantra that it is best to make the next size up. That way, seams can be taken in a  bit here and there. Especially for the men's clothing. Doublets in particular. Having some ease about the chest and shoulders makes for a more comfortable man.

A smock to go under the kirtle:

And the two together:

Lady Rebecca

How did you get your necklines to fit so perfectly?

I tried making the smock in the new simplicity undergarments pattern, and it turned out terribly wonky. I don't even think it will be that wearable.

I treated myself to the Simplicity patterns the other week when I was in a shop that had them.  I'll dig it out and have a look.

I just cut the neckline and sewed it.  I cut a square hole in the fabric and  faced it with a square facing.  I cut the facing 2" wide.  There's a whole dress diary of the smock here: http://community.livejournal.com/hist_kid_cloths/26492.html#cutid1

My wife saw the kirtle and smock, and was impressed with not only how good it looked, but also how quickly it was done. Sometimes its amazing how much faster people can get things done.

I go in for FTL sewing, you know.   ;)  And these are very small garments.

I'm going to try this and see if it works LOL.  My skills at adding photos are nil.  This is a gown I made for a friend in AZ off one of her old dresses.  It is loosely based off one of the dresses in Janet Arnolds book.  Fabrics are black velvet and a pink brocade along with fabric she bought.  I draft all my patterns.

I'll try this again so you don't have to click the link.  Please bear with me.

Okay, I'll try a few others too.

a jousting piece and caparison I did for my friend Virginia.  One of my faves since it was for a girl LOL.

Me and my daughter at a festival promotion, I made both of these.  Just hate that my daughter has grown out of it but it's been worn by half the kids in my childrens troupe since LOL

Another caparison I made for one of the Noble Cause guys, I haven't downloaded the pics of it on the horse yet.  I used lame for the gold, something I use rarely and only in detail work.  I always back it with a fusible muslin to give it stability and double stitch the edges down to help prevent fraying.  I also made jeweled pieces for the the crosses with stones and filligree.

Two of the Carolina Princesses I made gowns for

and a last one of me in my costume from this past season (and my one for this next season because I'm too busy working to make another)  I'm riding my horse Cera who could care less about my heavy skirts LOL. You can't tell in the pic but there's an olive green velvet band embroidered with fleur de lis on the hem.  The bodice is also hand embroidered and beaded.  I also made the hat.

What materials did you use for those gowns? They're beautiful!

Lady Rebecca

Wow, those gowns are absolutely stunning! I especially like the green one you're wearing with your daughter.

Manwariel

Beautiful! I especially like the riding coat, and the teal & gold dress.
