And by the way, luv -- THANKS for choosing that mesmerizing avatar.  ;) Hmm.. now I have a sudden yearning for forget-me-not blue dupioni!

Forget-me-not blue...SIGH  ;)

Now I'm getting all tingly thinking about Mr. Isaacs, and Hook's wardrobe! He looks incredible in black! I've been inspired to make new pirate garb, and am working on a black skirt and chemise. I have loads of black broadcloth on hand, but not the red brocade to make into a bodice to go with it. I do have a 40% off JoAnn coupon in my car....

JoAnns has a lot of good colors of courderoy in stock-- pehaps you can find a good bourdeau red or similar in a extra fine wale or even no whale. Courderoy makes a great bodice, and sturdy too. I did a pirate bodice in it, and it worked out super.

Use your coupon well, me beauty -- and show us what you come up with!

I just spent two full 10 hr days inventorying all of my fabrics and trims.  I got it all out, measured and tagged the fabric, re-organized the storage tubs and put a swatch into a 3 ring binder. I now know what I have and have concluded that I am just sick! ::) I ended up with some 40 pages of swatches 6 to a page.

AND to make it worse my favorite independent fabric store is going out of business and has a lot of fabric at $1-2 per yard and everything is at 50% off.  Kind of hard to justify getting any more.  But I am going to try tomorrow if my road gets snow plowed by then.

That very point, is why I have a stash in the first place!!  When I began garb making, I did not know what I needed, so I did not often have fabrics at all for me to work with, then when I saw a fabric I would say "Oh well I will get it when it is there tomorrow or next year or next what have you". Only to find the fabric gone or worse it was the little bit I needed to finish something or I had a stain situation and needed 1/2 of a yard for a new sleeve.

I buy a lot of my fabrics from eBay or at a clearance sale from somewhere, and once that fabric is gone, you can bet you will not see it again.
As I became more into H/A and wanting to use Woolens and Silks, plus my own personal colors......finding a specific Fleur de Lys in purple well I am buying that fabric and I will place in my stash for later use, now I have to admit I have slowed down on purchasing things. Now I am buying a lot of underneath material to make the entire outfit sort of thing, because I really do not have a lot of lining material et al.

So if I see a good price on medium weight linen I will pick it up.  I like knowing I don't have to search outside of my home when I get the garb making bug.
I think it costs me more money when I have to run out to find materials, because you need them right then and there you really don't have the time to shop around and find a good deal.  Not like I don't keep JoAnn's coupons on me and of course buying online means I have to wait for the stuff to arrive, which is also a pain.

I am lucky I live close to San Francisco, and we have a smallish fabric wholesale there, and I get to the LA garment district I think at least 3 times a year, and we know not to go to Michael Levine (Shudder on price tags) while his shop has awesome things within it?? So are the prices! Oy Vey! Instead I can get the exact same silks from down the way and bargain shop for 1/2 price.  I found some Silk Taffeta last year for 5.00 a yard, there was 10 yards and I did a deal that I bought the whole roll.

Home Fabrics also has this year end clearance that arrives just as we have Costume College in LA.  I do NOT think that is a coincidence either!  So friends picked up silk taffeta at the fabulous price of $8.00 per yard and it is a nice thick Taffeta.  Because I wanted deep Aubergine I paid $11.25 but still?? A great price!!  You can find linen and well all sorts of things, I mentioned before they had rolls that were $1.95 a yard by the roll....so I got Cotton Sateen in teal and again deep dark rich Aubergine.  I ended up with 15 yards of the Teal and 8 yards of the Aubergine and under $25.00!!

With one of your favorite suppliers going out, it is needed that you find anything that you might need for friends self or family, and get it now so that you can have those pieces in the stash.  I am so bad I wish I was out there with you checking out the deals!!

Good luck!

I'm going to start a new thread on recycling on all this fabric that we have lying around.  Lets trade for things that we will use or need. Esp. since we are all hurting in the pocket and shouldn't buy any new fabric. :D
