OMG I was a very bad girl tonight! I have a sudden deadline for making some Victorian garb so I decided to go to JoAnn's. I have tons of fabric in my stash but I'm not sure exactly what all I'm using for our ren garb so I didn't really want to touch it. I will use my calico for some prairie girl outfits. SO I thought I'd pick up just a few things since there's a major sale of 50% off red tag fabric. Yeah, almost $100 later I manage to crawl out of the store. But I did get a lot of great buys. Maybe my husband won't ask how much I spent... ::) I really have to stay out of there from now on.

Shopped like a true fabricholic!  Well done!   ;D

Despite my ever growing stash, I will be purchasing fabric for upcoming commissons. What I have will not work for the color schemes being requested.

As a very novice sew-er (made 1 pair of bloomers), I buy all the Renaissance patterns that I like when they are on sale.

I think I would have a very large fabric stash (as opposed to the small one I have now) if we had a Joanne's that was decent.  Ours is so small and has almost nothing in it.  Every special order carries a shipping fee, so even if something is on sale, the shipping fee negates any discount.  There's no Hancock's or anything else within a 2 hour drive.

So maybe that's a good thing!

Went to get my hair trimmed today, and what should I see across the parking lot but 4ft high signs in the window of Hancock Fabrics saying "75% OFF"... so of course I spent $45...  I didn't have much time, since it was close to closing time, but I did finally find the fabrics I want to make a duvet cover with, and I'm quite happy with my choices!  For some reason I've been wanting to piece thing together lately, and green has been calling to me, so I settled on three different patterns of green, three of purple and a brown to tie it all together.  Sounds like odd combinations, I know, but they work together, at least to my eye, and since it will be on my bed I guess that's what counts, right?

Oh, I also walked out with 9 - $.99 patterns, also, from both Simplicity and Butterick, all for garb, of course!  LOL  I found the Butterick B5371 pattern for pouches, waist cinchers, belts and bracers, also, and I now have lots of plans for the 22sf side of chocolate brown top grain leather I stumbled upon on eBay a few months ago, also!!!

I helped a pal with some Regency garb recently...  Payment in kind of silk thread and several yards of scrummy linen!

Well, do buttons count?
I went with my friend so she could find fabric for her new Henrician dress and I bought 100 gold metal fleur de lis buttons which I have no project for.

Well........I went to a WalMart near me, which seems to be the last in the area to sell material. I bought 13 yards of small flowery print, and 8 yards of a deep marron solid. Mind you, I don't NEED any more material, but at a dollar a yard......how could I just walk on by?  ::) (both are cotton blend)
Most of my ren wear, is dark, so this will be a new change for me.
Gawd.......when is the next meeting?
DonaCatalina.....lordie, you better rush to the next meeting! LOL!

I successfully resisted a brocatelle at Childress fabrics yesterday. Two tone wheat-gold rayon/cotton/silk blend with metallic gold highlights woven in.
$21.95 a yd was a little pricey right now.

I know you all have been saying you can't find real linen at Joann's but I not only found it there at $14.99 per yard, but I found my 2 favourite colors! A Deep lovely Aubergine and a deep Gray.  As I have said before? I have %50 off coupons, and so I walked into a Joann's in Southern California in I think Irvine, and there was the Gray, and while there found out that the sale that was ongoing was not part of the real linen!! This meant I could use the 50% off coupons from the Magazine I have said in the past, which made them 7.49!!!!  SOOOO I now have luscious deep purple linen medium weight and some glorious Gray.  I will be using this not for myself, but for a friend who also loves the same colors, and is in sad need of garb for the SCA. So I think I am making Purple with Gray edging and Gray with Purple edging and some trim I have to tie them both in. I have to wait for pay day to pick up more of the Aubergine for a Summer Elizabethan for myself and I think I will embroider Fleur de Lys and Tudor Roses in Silver on the deep purple square necked doublet. Oh yea I did pick up some green/teal linen as well.

I am still checking out the wool, because it is still $24.00 a yard, but should be moved into the last season soon, so if I am right and I keep this in mind? I should be able to get this stuff at the 50% off seasonal sale, I will have to continue to check it out but the wool is very soft and lovely!  I think it will dye well, but I do need 4 yards for a skirt I want to make!

Here are the linens I picked up the Deep purple for the Gray, which will be for my good friend's 2 Tunics, except, now I see it works really well with the Fleur de Lys Trim. So I know I am going to pick up 8 more yards for a Summer Elizabethan, this one will be a square necked version a la Attack Laurel!

I've been keeping my eye on the wool too. Some day soon it'll drop to 50 percent off, I hope ... or if I'm lucky it'll end up red tagged and that'll be 50 percent off and I'll have one of those 10 percent off everything coupons ... oops, sorry, I'm fantasizing again.

LadyStitch

Currently Joann's has a 20% off everything coupon at their registers for the sale 2 weeks from now.  I had clerks get mad at me because I had coupons from their instore (some how I just happen to be in so offten that I pick up multiple copies of their instore stuff ) , then the online coupons, then their newspaper coupons.   The past few times I've saved more using the coupons than what i spent.

I've tried telling my clients if you give me time to work the sales I can save you money.  One client wanted a rush and i had to pay full price for her dress.  What typically I could make for $20 in supplies cost her $50 because she had to have it finished 3 days earlier. Heh it has gotten to the point my DH won't buy any of the fabric for his gar unless he has a coupon.

Have I mentioned Joann's is evil and great at the same time.

It is kind of strange watching your personal history become costume.

I recently started sewing but have had a fabricholism for a few years now.  Joann's maybe good and evil but there is also a fabric warehouse nearby.  OMG!  I can spend hours in there picking out fabrics.  Unfortunately, i am also addicted to jewelry making and cross-stitch.  So I have no room for any more addictions!    ;D  Whats a girl to to?  LOL
Everything goes better with giggles
