Thanks, Rani! Sorry about that, yeah, unfortunately I have the smaller of the two pattern sets, otherwise I'd mail it to you, Wicked.   :(

Ok so I fell off the wagon yesterday.
I didn't fall, I took a running leap off of it.

I was in Lakeland friday and saturday for an airshow.
by saturday my mom and I had our fill of airplanes so we drove around town and lo and behold, 10 minutes from the show was a Hancocks fabrics.
I bought 12 yards of a gorgeous ruby red silk at $5/yd.
I know I was bad.

After being in Hancocks, the selection of fabric for everyday clothes at Joanns is pretty abismal.

Auryn! Before you use any of that Silk, be sure to prewash it first. The dry it on GENTLE for about 15 minutes, air dry the rest of the time out ona  clothes line if you can. The Red dye will BLEED onto other fabics when wet. The color will have faded a bit in the process.

Lady K... can she soak it in water with vinegar to set the dye better, by any chance?

thanks Lady K and Rani

The silk has been sitting in the hancocks bag (open to breathe) on my dresser since I got it for that very reason, I prewash all the fabric I buy and I just wasn't sure how to wash it. I have 10 yds of dark green silk that have been sitting around waiting to be washed for 5 months for that very reason.
Is it ok to just toss it in the washing machine on a gentle cycle?? I have some shout color catchers I can toss in there also.

For a sealer, it is really a combination of calsolene oil, soda ash and iodine free salt.

Ok, I have put myself on a fabric fast.  The only items we have been buying are trims and such for the PP.  If I want to make anything for myself mundane or ren it has to come out of the stash.  I have so much in there I don't know I even have. It is kind of fun "shopping" in my own sewing room.  Anyway, I was hoping to find enough of a cotton fabric to make me maternity bloomers when I found a large wad of fabric I had been blessed with.  After rolling it onto an extra fabric bolt I had I found that it had a tag from walmart on it.  It said "10 yards 100% cotton kona cotton, Sale $1.00 a yard"  Whoo hoo!  I now have enough to make matching bloomers, AND dress.  :)
And I found enough of a yummy white satin, white twill, and other stuff, to make me a nice new italian bodice to go with it. :)

Like I said before, you would be surprised what you may have in your stash. :)
It is kind of strange watching your personal history become costume.

Lady Rebecca

I went to the LA Fabric District today for the first time ever. And after about 2.5 hrs of just hitting about 5 blocks of stores on and around 9th, I walked away with 10 yds of a nice red floral on white (going for that 18th c look) 100% cotton for $20, a bag of random pearl and /or rhinestone findings/trims and silk flowers for $7, and 7 yds of light blue silk taffeta for $46. I think I came out a winner (though the silk taffeta does feel a little too good to be true).

Syrilla

Ohhh, that is some place that I've always wanted to go.

Auryn

I am jealous Lady Rebecca,
I LOOOVEEEE the LA fabric district. I have dreams about it once in a while and I have only been once.
I would seriously take a trip out there just to be able to walk around for a few days.

You should post a picture of that taffetta, it sounds beautiful.

I have only used this on cotton but I would think that it would work on silk too. Maybe you could shoot them a email and ask what they would use.

And I DREAM of going to the LA Fabric District! That is a trip that I have to save for lol

Wickedvox

Our dog cost us $123.00 yesterday--so much for buying new fabric for a while. :-[ Was REALLY hoping to splurge at Haberman fabrics, but I guess 'twas not to be.
By the by, does anyone know where I can get some pink & gold striped fabric--obviously VERY cheap?

ok..........I need help!   ::)
The Jo-Ann store near me, Canadaguia NY, is going on a huge move...across the road....lol!  :D
Anyway, they are selling BOLTS of fabric at 75% off!  :o OMG! I walked out with $250.00 worth of fabric for $63.00 and that didn't include the notions that were just pennies!
I am going to make drapes and such, but good grief...if anyone is close you should go there!
