Regards,
CB
I am giving them away, mostly to people I meet at my home faire, The Sterling Renaissance Festival. I designed them and had a company make them for me.
CB would you be willing to share the company's info? My favor lady stopped her favor biz to persue other interests.....
My favors for this year will be tiny litte replicas of my faire hair. Kinda like taking a little piece of me with you..... EVERYWHERE!I have some of your favors already, haha. One of the red ones keeps turning up.
Chris said that my favors for TRF 2008 look creepy..... :'(I think they look serene. I'd love to have one.
They are supposed to be the Element of Air. (All the feathers are different colors for each one)

They are made out of sculpty with feathers and pin backs on them. At least their eyes are closed... :-[

I really like them, Cass. Maybe a little bit of beading or a swash of paint...needs some white to it! :)
I'm in the process of making a swag rag to put all of my favors on but that's not going so well. The fact that I don't have a sewing machine makes it interesting so all sewing is done by hand.
Not to mention the favors I need to make this week. >.<
Those are very nice favors, Element of Air. Did you use a mold?
I used white shimmery eye shadow on some beads I made not too long ago and it turned out pretty nice. I baked it on the surface of the clay, but you can mix the eye shadow with the glaze, too.
OOO!!! Save a pretty red or black one for me!!!
I think they are cool. Tell him that's ok all my ren friends like em.
Element of Air, please hold one for me - your favor is exquisite!
...I also need to find a pouch to carry them all in from my hip, but it does need to be light enough to wear with my chain mail. *Starts Searching* I might just make one....
...my pouch is made from a large piece of suede cut into a circle (about a 20" dia, I'm guessing) but I don't hang it by the drawstrings. did that for a year and got tired of it always swinging on my side and having to untie it from my belt 1st if I needed my something inside of it. I took a scrap of leather from making a belt about 8" long and attached it to the pouch on the side oppisite of where the drawcord gets tied. its very easy to attach a strap to any pouch with a few chicago screws that can be found in any store that has farm or horse stuff in it.
I'm working on these for TRF (Nov 1 weekend). My grandson, Carter, has AHO - a rare genetic disorder. Mint green is the awareness color.
Are these ok or 'too personal' ?

Hehe of course, dahling! Hmm...maybe I should start planning a trip to Scarby so I can deliver it in person.
Alright, I've got some new ones. I haven't decided on whether to make these special favors or to just do these... I still have a TON of sheep & ship wheels so maybe a special one would be good... Hmm, dunno. ;)
The charm on them is a little pirate hat and sword I found at Chubby Chico Charms. I love the different bottles. The gold one (round bottle) actually has Pyrat XO Reserve in it. :D
You think I'd leave you and James out!? Psssssssshaw! I need to order more beads and charms cause I am quickly running out! Thank goodness I finally found a couple of wholesale sites! ;D
Here's a free token for the first 500 subscribers to faire magazine. . . we're almost there but there are still plenty of free pins to give out! http://www.fairemagazine.com

I'm working on a faire favors article for the next issue of Faire Magazine. Please send me photos of your home-made favors and the explanation behind them and you'll see your hard work in the pages of our quarterly magazine. If we can use your posted photos and information in this thread, please let me know of that as well!

(http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg132/cobaltblu1/Misc/WellMet3.jpg)In a word... awesome. :)
What do you think?
Nicely done Cobalt. :)I've seen several favors with ribbons hanging from the holes on these with a variety of things threaded onto them. Perhaps your beads could do the same?
I have been inspired to make favors but I need some advice. I have finally, after four years ,come up with something that will convey *me*. Problem is, I am not a beader and don't quite know how to put them together. There will be two beads and they need to hang vertically as the holes go top to bottom. 1)I wanted to hang them on a tie tac sort of pin, but can't find a good price..anyone have a good source? 2) Is there such a thing as a tie tac with a hole to attach a wire ( for the beads to dangle) ?
Thanks all.
Wouldn't mind having one myself, but not sure I'll be able to make it up to your neck of the woods anytime soon... just have to shoot for next year, maybe! :)

That would be FANTASTIC, Rani! ;D We'd love to have you visit our Shire!
Ozium, your favors are ADORABLE! They must have taken quite some time to make ~ how wonderful!
I'm not sure that I'll have time to make any sort of favors for Saturday, but I would love to make something to share.
Hmmm....I still have a TON of peacock feathers leftover from my wedding, some ribbon, and a hot glue gun....maybe I can whip something up if I have enough time Friday ;)

Hey, if you need to get rid of any of those feathers... I have a pretty incredible idea in mind! I'd be happy to pay you for any that you don't use for your favors!!!
I would be thrilled to be hosted by you and all the other wonderful R/Fer's up there, Tygerkat, and can think of little I would enjoy more than a trip up to visit your lovely Shire... (sigh) I'll just have to figure out a way to get up there!
Well... I've started designing a new favor for the SteamPunk invasion of TRF also, and I'm hoping to actually start them soon. I've got my Ren favors started already, but with so many projects in the works it's going to take all the time I have between now and All Hallows to get everything finished!!!
Oh, I've got two different sets of favors to make, one set for SP, and one set for the next day! I've got one of each for you, also, Taffy!
Lady Amy, I would soooo love to come up there and visit for Faire... maybe one of these days!
Here is what i came up for this years favours, All on a cord and sealed for use. I almost
need to go into production now. Even gave one to Woody from the Crown and Feather,
it's a perfect size for him.

This is not at all HA or period, but I just thought it was adorable so I had to add it. It's a safety pin sheep: http://familycrafts.about.com/library/projects/blspbdsheep.htm
I ues E6000 glue for everything. It is holding one of my concret statues together after it had a accident.
OH YES YOU DO!!!. I used E6000 to glue a group of pewter bunnies doing dirty things to my boob this season at the shop. My boob started BURNING! E6000 heats and irritates skin as it cures.
I saw someone use shrinky dinks as a tag. You can print on the plastic film with a printer, cut it out, bake and voila!
I could use the input. Can anyone tell what these are?
That'll do. Thank you. I wanted to be certain the buttcheeks weren't very obvious. Rosy Bottoms...
thinking thinking... swords, roses, corset busts, coins, turkey legs (j/k). I'll have to ponder this one and return
How many faire favors do you typically make in a batch? I will be making mine and my husbands and I am not sure how many charms to order.
*grin* Chubby Chico Charms is awesome! Sign up for their email bc they always send discount codes!
Yeah, and they're running their "Make It A Double" sale, too right now. :xYou are an evil woman you know that? ;)
capn faye, I still dont have a bottle from you!! wink, wink, nudge, nudge!!
dinobabe, I WANT that Cletic knotwork!!! Sunday, May 2nd??
aww, dude, i need to get going on mine again!

I'll be there either the 15th or 29th. Is that the only day you are coming? I'll save it for you! What color?
Finally making my first favors, and hopefully I'll have them done in time for RenDevous...
Dinobabe, it looks like I will be at TNRF opening weekend. Will you perchance be there and we may swap favors?
Curious: Has anyone given out a favor only to get a look of confusion in return?
Also, if someone gives a favor, is the recipient supposed to give one in return?
Ok just curious, does anyone ever do favors for their babies or children? I have an awesome idea for favors for my little boy but not sure if I should. Thoughts?

To give to the children, or in honor of them? ??? Cos at the bottom of page 5, someone made a ribbon charm in honor of their grandson as public awareness of sorts for an illness.
I personally see no problems with it, if that is your meaning. Having no charms (err, well having never been to a faire yet) I for one would gladly wear a personalized charm.
Thanks Ozium! I am still debating on the size of the pearl on the disc portion. I think I might go down in size, this is a 6mm.

I think they look perfect and would not change a thing!
All this talk about favors..I cannot wait until I get my first one!
I am picking up that usually these are "earned" in a manner, i.e tricks, goofing off, ect. Is that typically true?
I give my favors freely, mostly to people I've met and spoke with, also if we meet any RF members at faire.Same here ;D. I primarily give them to friends, favorite vendors and sometimes to a particularly hardworking minor cast member whom I might not know personally but is obviously going the extra mile to engage the patrons. This is important to me, since I have attended a few faires where the primary cast members stayed in a group and barely spoke to anyone other than each other. I acknowledge that this makes it easier for them to stay in character, and some actors are just too busy with complicated scenarios to spend much time playing with the crowd.
I've also given favors to a couple of small children, when they've approached to ask if they could have their pictures taken with us.
Never asked anyone to do anything to get one, nor have any of my friends asked either us before giving one, or others to whom they gave favors. Maybe it's a regional thing?
So.... here is my first attempt at making favors.... not sure if I like the design or not. Things always seem different comparing my imagination to application lol.
Very nice my lady!
I tried my hand at my first tokens. A small shield in my colors. I'm thinking as a handout to kids in costume.

I'm wondering if what he was hawking wasn't one of the cheaply bought or made little things that some "characters" (NOT to be confused with CAST characters, you understand) hand out to everyone they encounter in the lanes who will stand still long enough for them to do their "bit", so that they get the attention they have come looking for? There's a huge difference between those things and the Favors that are designed, crafted and handed over to old and new friends each season by those who truly wish to give a Gift to those they meet and enjoy spending time with at Faire.
I'm guessing that if this Jack was handing them out like candy then he neither put much time OR effort into them... and likely not much expense, either. For most, Favors are something special, and to be kept and displayed season after season... or at least rotated when you've been given so many that you no longer have room for them all! You can definitely tell who at Faire is generally well liked, though, by the weight of their "brag rag"... ;D
Does anyone know who it was who made the Tudor Rose favors and was giving them at the recent Kansas City Rendedezvous? I really should remember, but of course I don't. I need to know how they were made, since I want to make something similar.
I don't know. I am such a loser when it comes to remembering names and faces. I'll try to get a photo of the favor at lunchtime and post it. That might help.

Thank you! That's simple and inexpensive -- two of my favorite things. I really appreciate the help.I like to give out a little something each year, to friends and as a token to entertainers and characters who go the extra mile.

the basic piece is an item from Spare.Parts called 1" Round Clear Epoxy Stickers. She used photoshop to create the image and to this she applied a firm felt back with glue (like Aileens tacky). The epoxy stickers have an adhesive back so she just attached the image/felt piece to it an hot glued a pin (you can get the pins and stickers I know at Hobby Lobby or most craft stores).
Let me know it you have any other questions.
Very cute! Heck, forget the kids....I'd want one ;D
