DH and I are celebrating our 10 year wedding anniversary in a few weeks and I have been looking to get him some pants to wear at faire.  I would like to make the pants myself and not have to spend $40+ on a pair.  I've found a couple patterns that might work but would like to pass it by the experts (I'm limited in my garb sewing and everyone here knows so much!)  The pants are not historically accurate and I'm ok with that, I'll work on the H/A pants at a later time.  My 9 ½ year old daughter is asking for garb now that she has out grown the little garb she had.

Here are the 2 different styles I'm looking into.

Now here are the patterns I'm look at getting to attempt to make and alter if needed.
Simplicity # 4889

McCall # 4244

# 3402

# 9638

Any help would be greatly appreciated and thank you all!

How about a pair of scrubs?  Premade & reasonably priced in a rainbow of colors.

From those options, I'd go with either the first or last McCall's.  The Simplicity pattern, since it's designed for knits, might not behave exactly how you want in a woven (ditto the polar fleece pair).  I'd also compare the pattern pieces to a finished pair of your husband's pants to be sure you'll be happy with the size.  I've noticed that Big 3 pj pants patterns tend to run really large.

People are always recommending scrub pants, but I have no idea where they're getting them!

Even better, my local GoodWill has dozens of them for $3.99 each.

I use a pajama pants pattern that has only one piece. I think it's EZ Sew. You cut out the two sides, sew the inseam on each leg, put one leg inside the other and sew the crotch. Turn the pants inside out, press and sew hems and a casing for drawstring/elastic. Done.

Gem, I've seen scrubs at my local wallyworld, in the women's section.  Also, if you have an outlet center around, there is very likely a uniform store.  Plus as Randal said, you can find them at most thrift stores.

Hmmm... interesting!  There isn't one at our local outlet mall, but we *do* have a store that sells GARB year round!  So I guess it evens out...  ;)

I have used that McCalls 9638 PJ pattern many times.  I find they aren't very full, but they are comfortable and my men never seem to have trouble in the crotch area. I double stitch the that seam to ensure strength.   I do tend to make them larger in the legs just so they get some "puff" to them when tucked into boots.  Very easy pattern.
Nothing clever to say here.  Not enough caffine yet.

I got my pants at K-Mart for around $7.00, plain black they do come in other colors as well.  ;)

I use the pj pants for my boys and Hubby.  But as it was stated, I have a simplicity pattern, that is probably older than me *I love hand me down patterns :) * and it does run big I usually have to use a size or two smaller and then really work with the length.

Great website!  Huge selection of scrubs.    I have 4 pairs of scrub pants and 4 different tops.  I wear them around the house, out to the store, etc.  I haven't worn them to faire, because I don't need them for garb.  They've lasted a really long time, have held up well to washing.  Also, they have the colors black and brown in several styles.

I've worn them to Wally World and compared them to what they sell.  A little more expensive than at Wally World, but so much better quality.  The difference between night and day.
