Hoop Skirt Issues

Where is the best place to get a hoop skirt for a relatively low price? Or how do you easily fix one? Mine has removable hoops for washing, but it keeps on coming apart. I've used various types of tape, zip ties, prayer...NOTHING seems to keep the darn thing together! Please help...

Try looking on ebay for a cotton civil war hoop skirt.
The circumference will be bigger than what you need, but you can shorter the hoop lengths.

Look for one that has a solid coated metal band hoop. The two loose wires cased in fabric are practically useless. Ask the seller how they're made if the listing doesn't specify.

Once you have the skirt down to is preferred size, hot glue the hoops in place. Use medical tape to hold them
in place while the glue sets.
You can wash your cotton hoop skirt in the bathtub without the need for disassembly.

Be sure you order the right length as they make them  child size as well. You don't need the six hoops. Four or five are plenty. They are 100% cotton and have the steel bone hoop all around. Adjustable, but I love the idea of gluing them and washing them in the tub! I've been wanting to find some way to set the circumference as they tend to expand, and removing the hoops is a miserable job. Yay!

That's what mine do...except they EXPAND all the way apart.    It's one steel hoop per circle, but the connectors fail to hold the two ends together and they pop open.
Though it does make an interesting conversation piece: good sir, might you fix me hoops? Be a gentleman now!

i had a hoop skirt that was about 40 years old that i reworked to make it workable for my 10 year old, i bought the hoop steel from this place and their end connectors they are fantastic, i honestly believe this will solve your hoop problem

The connectors on my hoop kept coming open.  I used duct tape to hold them closed.  That was about 5 years ago, and I just remove the duct tape, take the steel hoop out to wash the skirt part, then put the hoops back in and duct tape them again.  It's really worked well.

I use electrical tape myself!  But duct tape works, too..

I love the bathtub idea - I have been paying $35 for them off ebay (I used hoop_slip) - and I am ashamed to admit, just considering them a consumable, buying a new set each year (my garage currently has three mud covered "ghosts" hovering from the ceiling).  Though the hoops are removable, I have been zip-tying and taping them closed, so just assumed there was no way to wash them..... great idea!

LOL!  Having had to improvise when hanging my hoop in hotel rooms, I can see exactly what you meant! Mine usually ends up as a giant lampshade over one of the freestanding hotel lamps.

i bought mine off of ebay i think it's the same angel's bridal got them for 15$ alas i broke the latch on them
the hoops got bent during a flight and i just got them to the perfect fit when the bottom one broke
so it's been duct tape and binder clips for me this season

I've been having a similar problem.  My hoops keep expanding.  I'm going to get them sized down where I want and re-tape them, then cut off the excess so they can't expand so much anymore.  Thank goodness I know someone who's got every possible tool known to man.

Laughing yes, use tools i used my hands and now have a blood blister from snapping the metal -
i just got so fustrated trying to get them down to size and getting them even
mine aren't going to expand and when i snapped the excess they weren't bent anymore
needless to say my hoops are never going back on a plane even if it's headed to maryland

When I went to a renaissance wedding in Maine in Nov. I carried mine (along w/ my dress) on the plane as a carry on.  I told them I was in the wedding.  It was semi- true.  I was one of 4 people there for the groom.  Poor guy.  Moved over from Wales to marry this girl then only 3 of his friends fly over for the wedding.  At any rate, I didn't have any problems.
