Ric Bertolo, Skip's partner in crime at Thee Dragon Laire was in a serious motorcycle accident and is still in the hospital.  From a friend on Facebook; "Ric is still on a day-to-day basis. He had surgery to relieve the pressure on his brain Sunday and as of yesterday, I was told the swelling has gone down some and he was responding to pain and touching of his hand. I personally haven't been in because he's in the Trauma unit and he's quite sedated. His cousin is keeping me posted."

Please keep him in your prayers, thanks.

Oh dear.  Thank you for passing along the news.  Do you know what hospital he's in?

[Update] I've since learned he is at Allegheny General Hospital.

There is always hope!

My brother was in an accident over 25 years ago, where seven of his nine brain stem fibers were severed.  We were told he would not live, and if by some miracle? he did, he would be nothing more than a vegetable, and he would not KNOW ANYTHING!  Well, they were wrong.  He's alive and he knows and remembers everything, except the accident.  He lay in a coma for 6 months, but when he came around, he remembered us and himself.  Doctors don't know everything!

Prayers are a strong thing, so I'll certainly pray for Ric and I'll know that God still performs miracles!  :)

Please keep us updated on Ric. We keep in touch by email and I wondered why I hadn't heard from him in a while.

I am new to the forum, but a long-time patron of the Pgh Faire. I was always photographing at the Joust matches. That's where I met Ric.
We were very close. We had a date only 2 days before his accident, and he had even given me a ride on his new bike, trying to help me overcome the fear I had. Then I got the news from a family member Monday the 18th. He had wrecked his bike and was lifeflighted to Pgh where he had brain surgery and was in a coma. He was in bad shape.
I just visited him at the hospital yesterday, I told him how everyone at the Ren Forum & on Facebook was praying for him, and that he was going to make it. I even read a printout of the messages to him, hoping it would help get him going. But I guess his injuries were just too extensive.
Ric was a gentleman to the core. A class act. He could always make you smile and had a smile and eyes that shone like diamonds. He loved adventure, chinese food, dragons, Blackmoor's Night, cooking, funny movies and gave hugs that could chase any demon away. Ric was simply a treasure. He would give you the shirt off his back and help anyone he could. He taught me to be open to life and enjoy random adventure, and slow down so you don't miss the world. I learned so much from him in just 8 months of dating. I loved him so because he treated me fairly and sweetly, even if we didn't see eye-to-eye on everything.
My heart feels so broken....Everyone & anyone who ever knew Ric will miss him terribly. He was a bright beacon of happiness in this nasty world......
Enjoy you new adventure my love! God's speed....

Although I just gotten acquainted with Ric at winter Renstock, I have seen him at the faire many times.  He will always be a friend I never got to know well.

We have lost one of our faire family every year now for the last 3 years.    I will forever cherish the friends I have and will make it a point to know the faire family members that I do not know well.  Please, if you have seen me at faire and have not talked to me, let's take the time to talk and get to know one another.  I Cherish you all and I know Ric would have been a friend if we had talked more.

The regret is just as hard when you realize a lost member of our family could have been a cherished friend but it is too late now.

God speed, mo chara.

If anyone hears anything about funeral arrangements, if you be so good as to share, I would very much appreciate it.  I feel as if I have been hit in the chest with a sledge hammer.
