I know we have some vets, and current service men and women on this forum...and I just wanted to say:

Same here.  WWII for him and he's got lot's of stories of the men he served with, many of whom passed on.

To their memories and in thanks for their service and friendship.

As a veteran I thank you for your thoughts, but Memorial Day is not for us. This is the day to remember the true heroes, the ones that gave the last full measure for Freedom.

It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that they fought, but for freedom — for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.

...and my dear friend Bob Keeler, who passed away a couple months ago- served in WWII and spent the rest of his life with a limp he received as a result of being one of the first to land at Normandy- a humble man who earned every ounce of respect we gave him.

As we say for our submarine veterans of WWII:

All gave some, some gave all.

They died so that our national language wasn't Japanese or German.

To the over 3000 submariners who gave their lives on the 52 lost subs in WWII, we remember you.

At every monthly meeting with my submarine veterans, I read 5 names from a two volume listing of WWII losses. After 2 years (24 months) I am not even a 1/4 way through the first volume. Every name called brings reality to the losses.
