Okay so I've been reading the weekly news letter thingy that gets passed around by the minions that live in the central brain of the faire, and I'm getting more and more curious, WTF is with the no tails policy? I mean was in all spelled out in black and white first weekend and that just happens to be the news letter I missed? I'm curious and I hate being told I can't do something if I don't have a good reason. (mind you I don't wear tails but i almost makes me want to wear one) So any idea's?

Princess Alice

I can actually answer this!  I'm proud of myself.  See, I wear a tail with my costume, and my boss told me I had to take it off because I would get in trouble for wearing it.  I didnt' believe her until I saw the teeny tiny note of it in the newsletter.  Took it off, and then put it back on after I got off of work...
And then promptly walked up to the people who sell the tails, who knew the story.

Apparently, some of the fairies were adding neon tails (lime green, neon yellow, not natural colors) to their costumes.  Management told them not to wear the tails anymore/the tails weren't appropriate.  That could have been the end of the issue, but the tail men told me (their words, not mine), that the fairies got "belligerent".  So an edict was issued that no one could wear tails because a few people pissed off PTB and wouldn't take off their neon tails.

I'm still wearing mine when I'm not working =P

oh how bloody silly is THAT... a FAIRY cant wear  neon tail because it isnt a natural color...

is it just me or is the irony just too much to bear this early in the morning?

odd.  I have never seen any faerie, who was employed by the faire, wearing a tail of any sort.

not doubting you, Alice.  but the tail guy... I dunno.....

I've never seen a fairy tale either, though I used to read them to my daughter when she was a child...

Once upon a time there was a fairy with a neon tail who lived with a hamster who had no tail...

The tail man got the story directly from whoever is in charge of cast.  I don't know if they were wearing them during rehearsals, or first weekend, or who knows what.
Apparently, the rule applies more to cast than to shop workers.  As long as your tail goes with your costume and is period then it should be okay.  HOWEVER, the tail men told me that we shouldn't wear them for a few weeks until the whole issue cools down.

I was at rehearsals... all of them.. well except dress but that's a whole nother can of worms.. and I saw no tails... Maybe the observant bosses started telling some patron off by accident not realizing they weren't cast. I mean they've been known to tell the patrons who dress like court off about not eating from period containers and trying to fire them before.... Oh well the whole damned thing s silly... I wanna get a tail.. no real fur mind you.. I only do dead cow for clothing......

I wonder who the tail guy talked to..... I will find out for myself this weekend then. *nods*

It's the shop up on the hill where the camel rides are.
I believe them simply because they were worried that they wouldn't be able to sell tails anymore or wear them themselves, so they went straight to the source.  I just have a bad memory with names.

However, though I believe the story is true, I have no idea who the tail culprits were.  Who knows what the tails were, or who was wearing them.

It doesn't matter much, because I don't wish to get fired, so I will continue to wear my tail when I'm off the clock.

Old news I know, and a bump but just to point out some of my obsevations.

Firstly, tails banned my foot. I've seen several peasants of the fair wearing tails. By peasants I do mean people who -work- at the fair. I'll take pictures if I must.

Secondly, they're tails. Who the heck really gives a blathering blasted smelly cheese foot about tails? For people who work behind counters 75% of the day I'd imagine they wouldn't be such an issue eh?

Thirdly, by all means please break this stupid rule, I encourage it. In light of the recent holiday, celebrating the Independence of this fine country, tail rules be torn and scattered to the seven winds! If everyone wears tails, everyone will have to be fired. See where its at then.

Forgive me but I do tire so much about the rules and crack downs every single bloody year.  Now I've said my two bits. *Steps off the box and burns it*

I still wear mine, because my boss hasn't told me to take it off.  If he does, by all means I will, but I've no intentions of doing so till then.

I never got around to updating this... So I was talking to the girls at the braiding booth and they said it has something to do with more of a period reference. I guess in the period people would have worm fun tails and such to get the Bodily Vermin off of them. So they don't want people giving off the idea that they have body vermin.

I know doesn't make a lot of sense but made more sense to me than someone on entertainment ticking off the director of the owner. One the entertainment director can't make the boothies do anything. The owner could, but I don't see him really caring enough...

Oh and It wasn't on the last weeks newsletter....

And how many patrons are going to know THAT little tidbit of historic superstition?  Yea, Possibly slightly more than none.  And of those that DO know this little nugget of history, how many are going to panic, and how many are going to play?

Congratulations Faire on yet another foolish knee-jerk reaction.
