Can anybody help me out with an issue? I am trying to find out where I can possible find a full lenght coat like the one that Chaucer wears at the end of the movie A Knights Tale. The missus thinks that it would look great with the satyr garb.

Zaubon

It's wool and would be hotter than h*ll in Texas, but I love Moresca's Carrick coat.

I am unaware of anywhere to buy a coat like that.  And I dont recall seeing any patterns that looked like that.  But there are several, that I think, might be able to work if you just alter them a bit.

the construction wouldnt be too hard- as for fabric, looks to be sheep hide with the fleece still on, specially dyed...

I'd be tempted to look hard at bathrobe patterns.  You're probably going to leave it open, so no worry about clasps or buttons.  Looks like no pockets in the pictures either.

I'd go with a light and flowy fabric ... like a rayon or rayon-blend perhaps?  The trim part should be easy.

I did a little research and the closest pattern I can find is Simplicity 5958. .. It was a pattern for a colonial coat, and it's out of print, but you might try ebay, or maybe someone you know (or someone here) could scrounge it out of their stash.  It's the exact design you're looking for, I think.

Look at a site called garbtheworld.com.  Pretty good prices and they will make anything! ;D

That looks a lot like a lady's coat from the 40's.  Thrift stores are great for vintage coats.  I've used several as my base and added or embellished to make them look like I wanted.  Only problem is they don't start putting coats out in Houston until late in the year.  You might not find one in time.  Just a thought though.
