Well I have been attending the Texas Ren Fest for the past 4 years and have never dressed up for it. However this year after losing 120 lbs in the past year and a half, I think it will be cheaper and easier to find a nice costume. I was looking into the monk robes from http://www.verymerryseamstress.com/robes.htm , but was wondering what other accessories could go well with it. Especially what type of shoes should I obtain for the costume?

Thanks!

Lady Kathleen of Olmsted

Very Merry Seamstress does excellent work. I am proud to be joint venturing in making some of the items sold on the site.

As for sandals, Birkenstocks  or Rockports work well. Made sturdy and will hold up for many years. The last thing one can do is go cheap on the feet. One's back will be aching in no time due to improper footwear while at faire all day long.

Accessories like carved wooden crosses, leather or rope tied belts, a simple leather pouch, and wooden tankard go well with Monk wear.

First of all - congrats on your weight loss! That is awesome. I need to get motivated and do that as well.

As for the costume, I agree with Lady Kathleen. If you like Birkenstocks, they are great and it is very important to wear comfortable shoes or you will be worn out much sooner than you'd like. Her suggestions for accessories are perfect as well. Have a wonderful time!
