I'm still avoiding sewing by playing around with other stuff.

Dollar store dart guns before:

and after:

It looks like you have better product in your dollars stores, then I do in the ones near my home.

Most of the Dollar Tree stuff is crap. As are these since the foam darts don't fit properly. But they'll be cute tucked into our garters, won't they?  ;D

After work today, I'm off to the thrift store.  With any luck, I will leave with boots, goggles, a belt, some sort of gun, and possibly a shirt.  This is probably asking too much of the store at once, but we'll see.  I will post pics of anything I find.

I've decided that I want red and white striped stockings, which I should be able to get as soon as the halloween store opens.  Going w/brown for the boots and coat.  I have no idea what color(s) to make the skirt and corset.  Any thoughts?  I'm hoping I'll be struck with inspiration while I'm at JoAnn's Labor Day sale...

How about olive, avocado or sage green, khaki, rust/spice, goldenrod or pumpkin (sounds like a '70's kitchen)?

Hmmm...... I'm picturing a red corset with the red and white stripey socks and a skirt in one of the earth tones Taffy suggested.

Just saw a post over on LiveJournal. Looks like Jeff Mach, creator of WickedFaire, is collaborating on a new event for New Jersey. The SteamPunk World's Fair is planned for May 14.

Oh GAAAAHH!!!  Just that little bit of tease is enough to make me drool and start researching RT ticket prices to NJ!!!  LOL  Not sure if I could get all the way up there, but it sure is something to day dream about, and I'll be keeping my eye on it as it develops!  Thanks for the link, Esc!!!

Looky what I bought - scroll down to the Clockwork model:  http://www.blackphoenixtradingpost.com/jewelry.html

I've been wanting one of these for ages, but it seems like they're always sold out.  They are perforated so you can wear a scent-infused cloth or cotton ball inside & the scent will waft out as it warms.  I also want the Cheshire cat, mad hatter, well, which one don't I want!

I got some packages in the mail today containing a Moresca Molly skirt that I bought from a member of the wench forums and a new Victorian underbust corset from Timeless Trends. They'll be the basis of the sky pirate outfit I plan to wear Saturday and the corset will be put to use again on Monday for my lady time traveller outfit. :happydance:

Happy day, sealion!  Congrats on the new garb.

I don't know if you all are familiar w/Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab.  They make the most divine little bottles of perfumed oil.  They are even better after they've aged for several months.  One of my favorite things to do is to open my little box of BPAL and just inhale.  I'm wearing Anne Bonney layered on Grog and it's just yummy.  They even have a line of steam punk scents.

Hmmmm... do they use pure essential oils, do you know, Taffy, or perfume oils?  I have problems with lots of perfumes, so I usually just blend my own from plant and flower essences, but I'm always interested in finding a really good perfumer!

I'm actually working on a new scent now, and it promises to be quite yummy (quite literally...)!!!  LOL

I found the dart guns.  It will be interesting to see how the paint job will turn out on mine.

Oooh.  Red corset, earth-tone skirt does sound like it would be good.  I'll have to see what color fabrics I can find.  :)  I'll just have to be careful I don't end up looking like christmas if I end up wanting a greenish earth tone.

Sadly, the thrift store was a bust on steam punk accessories.  They had nothing that I went looking for.  I did, however, find a wonderful set of chinese tea cups, 2 soy-sauce dishes (something I've been looking for for ages), and a toy gun for my husband to mod for a costume he's (sort of) working on.  So,  not completely a wasted trip.

Think I'll give a different thrift store a try some time between now and the end of the weekend.
