I don't know about you guys but Halloween is absolutely my favorite holiday, aside from the fact that its 2 days after my birthday. Thankfully my boyfriend feels the same way.

Funny thing is, now that we are so immersed into faire, I don't know what to wear for Halloween.
It just seems wrong to wear garb. Even though I would regularly wear pieces of garb in mundane life, for halloween it just doesnt seem right.

What are you all doing for halloween and do you wear garb or have a 'costume' for halloween?

We used to do Hallooween...decorate the front of the house like a haunted graveyard.

But the teenagers in torn shirts and uncostumed people dragging uncostumed infants along kinda ruined it for us.

But what we used to do was have 'classic' halloween costumes. I was usually some version of the wicked witch of the west and DLH sometimes dressed as the scarecrow.

It was a blast to see the elementary school kids come by in their costumes, wide-eyed with amazement at the skeletons and big spiders.

Until the other ran them off.
Two years ago we got three kids of elementary school age. That's when we called it quits.

For Halloween the past 4 years I've seen the band Donnie Iris and the Cruisers on the Gateway Clipper in Pittsburgh for their annual Boo Cruise.  I wore renaissance garb to each show, just because it was in my closet!  This year I'm going in Steampunk attire, so that's a change from the usual garb.

I'll be at the Escondido Renaissance Faire on the 31st. So dressing up is already done. ;D

Since I live in a senior home park, I'm afraid if I put anything too scary out for decor I might give someone a heart attack..... ::)
But since I do have a twisted mind..........................heheeeheeeeeee!!!!

I'm doing Star Trek this year (Jadzia Dax from DS9). Woooot! I bought a cheap jumpsuit uniform thing; it's not great, but it'll do, especially once I draw the spots on my face. I really want to get some blue color contacts - I already have long dark hair like hers. My husband hasn't decided if he's going to do Star Trek as well or something else.

I'm excited for this year because we bought a house this spring, in a neighborhood with some kids, so we might actually get trick-or-treaters! And we have a nice front stoop to put our jack-o-lanterns on.
Masquerading as a normal person day after day is exhausting.

To Dona's point - the best Halloween party is one someone has and invites you. The kids seem to be going to church or mall functions more than roaming the streets. Of course, I'd probably be doing the same if I had  wee one, what with all the craziness out in the world.

Speaking of which, need to pester my friends and see who is having a Halloween party!!! I'd wear my garb there, none of them are rennies. I think Pirate would be the best. They wouldn't really get the wenchy stuff. Hubby in kilt of course - with RenShirt and Beret and boots to distinguish from the retirement party he went to recently in a kilt!

Last spring, I made the garb seen in my avatar, thinking of it as my Halloween costume. But then I put it on, and wandering around in a gown that expensive, heavy, and huge doesn't seem like the smartest idea. So then I figured I would just wear my normal garb, without the farthingale, since I miss faire so much. However, yesterday I was cast in Sweeney Todd, and I now have two performances on Halloween. So I don't know how much time I'll really have to wear anything else!

I dress up for the trick or treaters.  Last year I was a witch (I know, how original) w/a Victorian bustle skirt, off the shoulder velvet bodice & veiled hat, all in black.  The kids loved it & I had boatloads of parents taking their kids pictures w/me.  This year I'm planning to haul out Professor Snape for the kidlets.  Halloween is my favorite holiday, too - I wanted to grow up to be Morticia Addams.  Queen Bonnie & I are doing Harry Potter invasion on Halloween Sunday, but I'm thinking the Professor may stay home that day as an idea for another ensemble is running though the old brain pan.

I love Halloween!

I actually went trick-or-treating until I went off to collage.  And yes, I dressed up every time.

I don't think I've actually worn my full ren garb for Halloween, but bits and pieces of it have made it into my costume pretty much every year since collage, which is when I got into faire.  If I didn't have so many other ideas for costumes I want to make, with no other outlet than Halloween for them, I'd probably be wearing my garb.  I'm too much of a costume nut, though.

This year I am going to be a Steampunk Airship Pirate.  My husband was going to go as Zap Branagan(sp?) from Futurama, but now he's thinking of doing something steampunk as well.

Hopefully someone we know will have a party earlier in the day, because he's in a play that has a show at 8pm on Halloween.  What's up with scheduling plays on Halloween?  It's almost as bad as having an exam on Halloween!   And yes, sadly, I did have that happen once.  :(

No one comes trick-or-treating in our apartment complex, but when we do get a house, I will DEFINATELY be decorating it!  I will be very sad if there are no kids to give candy too.  And my kids, when I have them, will be going trick-or-treating.  This holiday is WAY too much fun to let it die, for kids OR adults.  :)

Hehehe
glad I'm not alone.
Unfortunately the boy toy and I both live in apartment complexes and in south florida to boot. We know that once we get a house we are definately going all out in the decoration department.
There is not much out door trick or treating that goes on around here, the kids generally go to the malls.

Unfortunately I will most likely be working the stupid boat show Halloween day- the show is always that weekend so I have spent my birthday and Halloween working 15 hrs days- 8 days in a row, every year for the last 12 years.

So far no one we know is throwing a halloween party yet, I've asked a few people and keep getting weird looks about it since they think its still over a month away- their crazy

We NEVER have any kids anymore so we usually go to a party or two.  This year, I think I'm going as a "classic" vampire - black cape with red lining, white shirt, slicked back hair, white face, medallion and sash, and white fangs.  My treasured Melody will probably go as my victim, complete with blood flowing down into her cleavage.

Or we could just stay home, put on the scary movies, and pray for some prey . . . I mean, hope for some kids!

My all time fav holiday too.  You could always join us at TRF on Halloween in Steampunk attire.  Gonna be a bunch of us.  It'll be like our own little dress up party in the middle of the biggest dress up party of the year.  And there's faire too.
I hope my life is an epic tale that ends well and everyone likes to read. --Grovdin Dokk

I second that invitation!!!  I'll be SteamPunk also, and it's going to be great fun!  Not just the all day party of Faire, but the whole TRF campground sounds like it's going to be one huge, or 50 smaller, but no less wild, Costume/Halloween party/s!!!

It's been my very favorite since I was old enough to realize that I was actually getting to be whoever I wanted to be for the whole time I was in costume!!!

I really want to wear my new Tudor for Hallowe'en- it should be done by then, unless I just jinxed it- but I'll probably end up going to a bar and I wouldn't have room with my hoops. Or I might go as Glinda the Good Witch.
