LOL... been there, done much the same.....like shoes before hoop and corset.

Gwen aka Punstergal

LOL.. that sure brings back memories!

I remember the first time i put on a shirt and bodice and THEN tried to tuck the shirt into my skirts.. it was a DISASTER. I had to recruit the help of TWO burly men (one to shove the shirt down through my waistband from above and one to fend off the on-lookers while I lifted my skirts and hunted around to pull at the ends of the shirt from below, trying to get them inside the skirts but outside the bloomers). And now I know, it is MUCH easier to tuck in the shirt before putting the bodice one, and then just tug it back out a little bit to get the right shape than it is to try and do it the other way around, hehe.

Many times my poor Lord has had to go under my hoops and skirts to buckle on my shoes.
*sigh*
I really do try to remember to put them on first.

There's a marvelous description in Katie Fford's Wedding Season of how they deal with the bride and her train in a narrow hotel loo stall...  End up trailing the train over the stall walls!  I thought of you lot in your hoops and gowns when re-reading this the other day.  It should be required reading for all brides with grand ideas!   ;D

The hoops are great for holding all of your skirts up on your shoulders while in the privy.
That is probably quite a sight.

I'm sure I'll regret posting this, but I just had my bridesmaids take off my gown entirely.  Easy-peasy to just step back into it.

I DON'T recommend this for Faire, however.  Or portaprivies.

A practical solution!  I'd have done much the same with a hooped skirt.
