A quote I just read about her--

'Prettier than Bob Dylan, less hectoring than Joan Baez, she made the idea of sipping overpriced coffee in a downtown dive, while a guitar player sang songs of freedom seem like the greatest thing in the world.'

R.I.P. Mary.

Pete Seeger wrote this song, and a lot of people have performed it.  But Peter, Paul, and Mary made it their own.  It was always the sweetest, saddest, and most powerful when they sang it.

Where Have All The Flowers Gone?
(Pete Seeger)

Where have all the flowers gone, long time passing?
Where have all the flowers gone, long time ago?
Where have all the flowers gone?
Young girls have picked them everyone.
Oh, when will they ever learn?
Oh, when will they ever learn?

Where have all the young girls gone, long time passing?
Where have all the young girls gone, long time ago?
Where have all the young girls gone?
Gone for husbands everyone.
Oh, when will they ever learn?
Oh, when will they ever learn?

Where have all the husbands gone, long time passing?
Where have all the husbands gone, long time ago?
Where have all the husbands gone?
Gone for soldiers everyone
Oh, when will they ever learn?
Oh, when will they ever learn?

Where have all the soldiers gone, long time passing?
Where have all the soldiers gone, long time ago?
Where have all the soldiers gone?
Gone to graveyards, everyone.
Oh, when will they ever learn?
Oh, when will they ever learn?

Where have all the graveyards gone, long time passing?
Where have all the graveyards gone, long time ago?
Where have all the graveyards gone?
Gone to flowers, everyone.
Oh, when will they ever learn?
Oh, when will they ever learn?

Where have all the flowers gone, long time passing?
Where have all the flowers gone, long time ago?

A piece of my childhood is gone now....been listening to them since the very beginning (as Lady Nicolette knows from some of our conversations on the "listening" thread).  Have had the pleasure of seeing them live a number of times, got to introduce our girls to their music live....

Gentle soul, great artist, mother, crusader.....rest well, you've earned it!

You mean it isn't?

Ambios, indeed, I quite enjoyed the link to them (anyone else who wants to see it, it's in the "What Are You Listening To Thread," that you sent just a couple of weeks ago.

And I agree with Jack completely on theirs being the best version of Pete Seeger's classic.

My mom used to listen to them. As a child of the '60s, I can't help but think that the music shaped my views and who I am today.

I was pretty saddened when I heard about it this morning. Although I'm not the biggest folk fan, I was pretty much raised on Peter, Paul, and Mary/Mommy.
