Overheating Ranger needs help with Cavalier hat

The Ranger, aka Leinad, has a felt Cavalier hat that he wants to wear. Only problem is that it holds in the heat and, trust me, he doesn't need any more heat. The only two times that he's tried to wear it, he's ended up overheated and almost passing out.

This is basically what the hat looks like. We've got a small feather hat-band and a silver pin to hold up the side.

Image from Lady McSnood's website. It's not where we got this one but our merchant doesn't have a website that I can find.

I'm looking for suggestions on how to vent the crown to let the heat escape. Putting holes in the hat is do-able but would be ugly. Has anyone else run in to this problem? How did you solve it?

Here you go.  http://www.50degree.com/custom/index.cfm?id=126348

These work VERY nicely as VARF is in May-June and it gets REALLY hot sometimes.  I just velcro one of these bad boys to the inside top of my hat and its like my very own personal A/C unit!  They recharge in ice water in about 10 minutes too!  They last on up to a 90 degree day about 2 hours before they need to be recharged.  Anything over lasts about an hour or less depending on if its over 100 like we had a few years back!  Trick is that it must not touch the head.  If it does, it lasts a LOT less time.  Hope this helps.

Thanks, Master James. We've taken a look at the info. It looks good but I'm concerned about your comment about it not touching the head.

I can see you being able to keep it from touching your head if all your hats are tall like the one in your profile pic. Do you know if anyone was successful using it in a Cavalier? If so, how did they keep it from touching?

When I wear my leather Cav hat I put a zippy bag of ice on top of my head  it works fairly well and there is no drippage

Master James

I would presume that there is some room between the top of his head the hat otherwise it will sit down on his ears!  LOL  Velcroing it to the top should do the job for you.  Is VERY thing (about 1/4") so as long as he has 1/2" or more above his head in the hat it should work fine.

Grommet the holes.  Many men on cast have grommeted holes in their hats - which have a neat appearance, and most people don't even notice.
