This year's contest will be held on Friday October 30 at the Drunken Gnome encampment around row 3 along the paved road.

Contestants and judges must enter their intentions to participant in the LokiChallenge Yahoo group database by October 25th.

Rules, guidelines, and forms are now available on the Yahoo message base. I don't intend to cross-post the information, so if you are not a member, please ask to join the group. Andi and I are both forum admins, so we will grant access at the drop of a hat.

If you are not at least 21 years old, don't bother. We will ID entrants and judges. No one under 21 will be allowed in the judging area until after the contest is over. Judges must sign a release form, due to the legalities of possibly adverse ingredient reactions. Entrants must list their ingredients (not the recipe) so that the master list can be presented to the judges. If any judge is allergic to any ingredients in a class, an alternate judge will be selected.

I'm already signed up to judge, and I signed my faire-virgin friend up as well. I couldn't afford to make an entry this year :(

Should the judges names be kept in a mayonaise jar on your porch until the day of the contest, Mike? We wouldn't want there to be any judge tampering, would we?

( I would just like everyone to know that should I be selected as a judge, that even though Bass Ale is my very favorite beer and that I drink Jack Daniels Single Barrel, that does NOT mean that I can be bought. )

Since the judges won't know which category they will be judging until the last minute, it will take alot of "tampering". Plus, with the double blind method, such problems should be minimized. Judges never see the bottle that the sample is poured from, all the know is the sample number, which isn't the entry number.

Now at 9 entrants and 7 judges, almost there.

You aren't making this easy for me, are you? Obviously you've been through this before. Alright then, I'll behave myself.

I would LOVE to enter my loki for the challange/contest, but I can't be there that weekend. <sigh> maybe next year.  :'(

I have a question, can a person have 2 entries in the same category??? I understand why if not, but I was just wondering.

Oh, and I'll be changing my entry.

OH! Well in that case, I'll be entering two flavors in the flavored loki category!

WOOT!

I don't see why not.

Will be adding some flavors myself then, didn't know that was an option either!
(Wonder if I can take all 3 places...)

*wonder if the judges like butterrum too...*

Mike, I've added my friend Mikki to the database but she may need to be defaulted to an alternate judge. I'm not sure her work schedule will allow her to get the TRF in time for the contest, and even if it does she'd basically be parking then running straight to judging without having time to unpack so much as a chair.

Okay, the fun is over.

Looking for constructive criticism of the event.

What did you like or dislike about how things were run? How can the event be better run?

I'll leave this thread open for 2 or 3 weeks and then delete entirely.

One thing that definitely needs to be remembered: supply a large enough bottle. A couple of folks brought entry sample bottles that would have better been served in a perfume smelling contest. There has to be enough to for 2-3 ounces for the initial judging, plus enough if a tie-breaker judging is required.

Judges, did you enjoy how things were run?

Blue66669

Well, it does seem to take a bit. That's the only thing I didn't like about the contest itself.

Oh, and the fact that I didn't win...

Winning it is kinda fun lol
Next year I plan to have more flavors for sure. Not making any new batches since Scarby because of our moving kinda sucks.

I have to agree on the amount of time it takes. My only suggestion is that the length of time it takes, perhaps the judging could start earlier and then have a scheduled time to announce the winners.
Perhaps the judging itself start around 7ish and then the winners could be announced at 9?

*And free rum being handed out while waiting would also be nice*

Kind of shocking to have a pair of newbies come in, with the first batch they ever made, WITHOUT coaching, and win the flavored category, huh?
