Sealion -- $4? $4!  Even w/having to replace the lining, you got one heck of a deal.  Not to mention the authenticity.  I never find anything cool like that around here, although I did get rather a cute bikky jar w/kookaburras on it some years ago.  Did you get your train ticket ? -  a jaunt on the train is ever so much steamier than a crowded jet seat & will be just the thing to get you in an SP mood.

Are you bringing more than one set of garb?  I may bring my adventuress set for Friday night & my black suit for Saturday evening's festivities.

Sealion, that's gorgeous!!!  Now I want one...  I'd probably be more apt to go Lolita than Lady, though, but that's just luscious!!!

You know a train like that can be a great look with nothing under but shortie bloomers, fancy stockings, and garters. ;)

Yeah... my days of shorty anything are a thing of the past, I think... but knee length bloomers are a possibility... but then I'd probably have to wear heels.  Hmmm... have to think about that...  LOL

Waaaaahhh... I wanna go to WindyCon!!!!!!!  It sounds like SOOOOOO much fun!!!  Particularly taking the train there!  Unfortunately, if I want to take the train north, first I have to go south to Ft. Worth (because we have no passenger service anywhere in the state that goes anywhere else... ::) ) and then either east or west a really loooong ways, and then turn north... so it ends up being an exercise in aggravation to get anywhere by rail.  I'd do it, though, if I had the funding... or at least drive!

That's kind of the way it is here. If I want to go anywhere other than Chicago I still have to go to Chicago first. I looked into taking a train to DC once and it would have been a three day trip partly becasue I would have had to go to Chicago first! LOL

I'm planning to wear/bring mix and match slightly steamy stuff for daytime and go all out for Saturday evening with the as-yet-to-be-made taffeta skirt and butterfly train. A matching jacket bodice would be nice put will probably be put off until the World Steam Expo in Dearborn next Memorial Day (some of the activites will invovle the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village! :happydance:). I've got Twelth Night and Val Day SCA gowns to get to first.

Took the train to Pitts from Dallas this summer it was three days by very enjoyable we had a five hour layover in chi town and got to walk around channel street.  We enjoyed it much more than driving which would have taken as long.  Better that fly it was one of my dreams to travel by train.  I always loved watching and reading about train travel now i've done it.

I took the train from Miami to NYC in '86, and it was one of my most memorable trips, and I didn't even stay in a sleeper!  I loved wandering through the cars, eating in the dining car, drinking in the bar car, chatting with all the interesting people, and just having an incredible train adventure... then this year I took my daughter to Ft. Worth on the Heartland Flyer for her birthday, since she has always been fascinated by trains, also.  She loved it, and wants to go again!!!  She was very excited to get to talk to all the grown-ups riding down with us, and just chatted the whole way... when she wasn't dragging me all over the train, anyway!  LOLOL

In 1966 we took the train from St. Louis to Colorado Springs.  Before we boarded the train, my sisters & I had gone to see Disney's Winnie the Pooh at the theater.  I was 11, the middle sister was about 8, and baby sister was 5.  Since I was older, the 8 year old & I got to wander the train and we loved sitting in the observation deck.  But no matter how far away from mom & baby sister we got, we could hear her bellowing, "Winnie the Pooh! POOH! POOH! POOH!" over & over.

Im so jealous you guys are going on a sp outing.

Can I ask you guys for references?? to shops that is.
I want to get my boyfriend a skeleton pocket watch for Yule, but I don't want to get it on Amazon. Hes been looking at them on there for ages and I want something a little cooler.

Do any of you in your infinite steampunk links know a reputable site where I could get a cool skeleton pocket watch for under $100???

Thanks for the help.
Even though we have no steampunk events down here I'm hoping to get to make some steampunk outfits soon.
I found a local Halloween store carrying $10 top hats. So I plan on def modding one.

I purchased my steamy watch from this ebay vendor: http://stores.shop.ebay.com/everyday-deal-store__W0QQ_armrsZ1
I paid $20 (10 for the item plus 10 shipping) for exactly the same watch that was selling on etsy for $75! I admit I was a little skeptical ordering from asia but the item arrived quickly, was well packaged, and works well!

Spotted this guy at faire this weekend

VENI, VIDI, VELCRO! Spelling and grammatical errors are beyond my control, it's the way I'm wired.

CelticOne

Ok he looks really familiar for some reason...I wonder if he's on the Brass Goggles board.

The Time Travelers do tend to get around.  He looks like he last visited the Old West, what w/the bandana.

TRF looms ever closer.  I was thinking I'd get to go this weekend, but the h20 pump on Flora's Folly bit the dust.  I was quite pleased to have made it home in one piece on Saturday.  We'll see.

WindyCom is also getting closer.  Phil & Kaya Foglio are doing a performance of Revenge of the Weasel Queen on Friday evening, to be followed by a Hubble presentation.  Between TRF & WindyCon, my inner geek has broken loose & will be shortly running amok in the streets.  Amokamokamok!
