Working on new garb for Tristan. The shirt is fairly well done, except it needs a frog for the collar, especially as infant stuff needs oversized head opennings. I cannot believe how difficult it is to find white frogs in small sizes. I've checked my local Joanne's, Hancocks, and Walmart (one even has an ok craft section) but can find large in white, or small in black of gold. I'll be trying more places today. The doublet is also my first attempt at piping edges, and needs some refinishing work, but has definetly been a good learning experience. After all, making stuff more difficult/elaborate for the kids is mainly for the practice until I feel comfortable enough to upgrade garb for me and the Mrs. I've also finished a belt for him, simple black leather with green rhinestone studs. Don't know why, but I seem to always picture him in green garb. Next up, poofy pants, and try to find green tights or leggings.

You could always buy the black ones and dip them in bleach!  I find that the clorox bathroom cleaner works very well, especially when you don't want it to. ::)

I ended up fining ones on ebay. $3 for two of them, including shipping. I could have got 100 for $20, but the wife said I don'y have space  :). I was surprised at the veriety and prices I found. Always worth checking I guess

I went with this boning placement following a response to my earlier question about it

A preview of my side-lacing red Elizabethan dress project. Not bad for a few hours of cutting/patterning, one night of bodice madness, and all day Sunday for seaming. I'd say I'm about halfway done.

As we all know, camera flashes make everything stupid-shiny and awful looking. It's not quite as plastic looking as it may seem.

I'll be soon working on an almost identical style in blue, as well, that I cut at the same time as this one. I figure why make one when you can make two :P

Unfortunately I look terrible in Red (pink complexion) so this might end up being a for-sale item very quickly!

More details @ the dress diary in progress

I'm kind of struggling with some of the details (e.g. to add a guard to the bottom of the forepanel, trim placement on the skirt, etc) so if anyone has any suggestions, I'd love to hear them!

Ooh, pretty! Especially that underskirt fabric.

LadyShadow

I agree very pretty.  I love the trim and underskirt fabric.

I have several projects I am working on at the moment, burning the Midnight Oil in the process.

What I am working on first is a Victorian ensemble for a client in St. Paul, Minnesota, who is getting married on Halloween. I am making a Victorian Cutaway coat, Vest, and Ascot. I made the Ascot from a  Peacock blue Silk with no pattern. All from scratch. I will buy a jeweled button to sew onto the Ascot.

The Vest is Black Coton Brocade, underlined with  weaver's cloth for stability, then lined in Broadcloth. The pockets are functional, accented in Satin for the Pocket welts, collar, and buttons. The back of the Vest is the Peacock Blue Dupioni Silk.

The pattern I used is the SIMPLICITY pattern of the Frock coat and accessories. #2895 I am tweaking the coat pattern a bit to make it a Cutaway, rather than a Frock Coat.

Im starting a new costume :D
doublet, slops, jerkin, hat, sleeves and matching dress (doublet style...maybe I dunno yet...Any suggestions...a MALE will be wearing this)
out of THIS fabric

doublet will be out of gold paisley (eppaulets and tabbing in Gold crepe back satin) I would really like to do some canadian smocking on the crepe back and use it as leg o mutton sleeves but i dont know how that will turn out...jerkin will be out of peach.  Slops out of peach and gold crepe back satin.  Hat out of all three most likely in some form or another
dress:
Bodice and overskirt: peach
Guarding on overskirt: gold crepe back satin with creme lace overlay
forpart: Gold paisley
(would use same hat and sleeves for dress from gentlemans ensemble)

The whole idea with this is:

I am Austin Tatious during one half of the day and the other half I am his dear wife, Fleur Tatious...they bear a striking resemblance and she will spend the remainder of the day searching the various stable houses, inns, and fabric dealers, etc for her darling husband...or she is gonna be his sister....one of the two ...havent decided yet...ideas? :D

Sounds fun.  You should be able to pull that off just by changing the slopes for a skirt and supporting scaffolding, maybe a change of wig, and a hat for her just like the alter ego but in miniature, perched on curls.

It'll be fun, anyway.  Looking forward to the progress reports.  Oh, and I love the fabrics!  You golden peacock, you!   ;D

DragonWing

Lady Kathleen that is gorgeous. Would love to see the coat.

Great choice of fabric color combo's.

Wow, look at all of the great projects.  The corset turned out wonderful!

Here is a pirate jacket that I am working on for my brother in law.

Coo!  We need a Posh Pirates Parade!   8) 8)

isabelladangelo

Mom said she wanted to be a Pirate for Halloween.  :-)   So I'm working on her outfit for a Halloween party next Friday!

The above is the front of the waistcoat with "faux embroidery" (iron on patches.  I have a lot more that I plan on putting on it) and the front of the Frock coat.  I dyed the Frock coat with teal, dark green, and royal blue...and that's as dark as it got.   I'm using the same color/material for the britches as well.

Lady Renee Buchanan

I love both pirate coats, especially the fabrics on both.

Isabella, I love the embroidery on the waistcoat.  That is such a good idea.
